Hawks Suffer First Home Loss 7-3 to Hyde Park Baptist
The Canyon Lake Hawks softball team could not bunch up all of their talents into a cohesive effort in the loss to Hyde Park.
The loss was the first one at the home venue and the defense did not show up until second inning….in the meantime the Hawks had two costly errors in the first that lead to one unearned run and a deficit they could never catch up with.
Missy Romero took the loss while striking out 11 batters, but the combination of errors and timely hits from Hyde Park spelled their doom in this game.
The Hawks were lead offensively by Tiffany Arredondo’s two hits. The Hyde Park’s pitcher scattered six hits and also struck out 14 of the Hawks giving the host little room for error on the base paths.
Canyon Lake did bunch three hits together in the sixth inning resulting in three runs, but with a runner on third with no outs, the next three batters struck out squelching the opportunity to catch the visitors.
CLHS had five errors in the game and each of those miscues allowed Hyde Park to get their power hitters up to the plate to do their damage and control the game.
“The team just lost their focus,” Head Coach John Gallagher said. “We just have to realize what is happening in the game and make adjustments.”
The Hawk Softball team will be busy Thursday as they play three games at the Blanco Tournament. The team will play at 9am, 2:15, and 4pm…..get the hot pads out parents, I predict some tired young ladies on Thursday night.
