Lady Hawks Beat Navarro, 11-3
The Canyon Lake Softball team beat the Navarro Panthers, 11-3 scoring in every inning but one last Tuesday night on the road.
The Hawks have plugged in their extension cord after suffering a power outage as recently as last week. In the last two games Canyon Lake has scored 24 runs improving the most important part of the game….scoring.
The game wasn’t in hand until the later innings. The Hawks held onto a 4-3 lead going into the fourth inning, but that is when pitcher Missy Romero and the defense kept the Panthers without a run for the remainder of the game and the offense kicked in for the final margin of victory.Second baseman, Alex Henderson extended her hitting streak to 11 games with three of the twelve CL hits. McKenna Beseda supplied the power with a triple.
“They (Navarro) were solid on us early on,” Head Coach John Gallagher said. “They put the bat on the ball and they had good team speed.”
Romero had also been getting outs, but not via the strikeout venue the past few games. Eight strikeouts from Romero also will give Coach Gallagher a soft pillow to sleep on after the game.
“Missy (Romero) had more energy through the game,” Coach Gallagher continued. “She started hitting her spots and we got more ground ball outs.”
All the runs Navarro scored were unearned due to the three errors the Hawks committed.
The Hawks find themselves tied for second place in district play after the first time through district play. Canyon Lake has not been in this position before and the view looks pretty good.
“We control our own destiny,” John Gallagher finished. “If we play our brand of softball, then I think we can break it open and contend.”
The Hawks play Boerne Greyhounds this Friday at the Hawk diamond, game starting at 6pm. Come and cheer on the Hawks.
