Player Profile: Katy Payne
“And now coming to bat is Katy the Pain Train,” as Stephanie Langenberg Introduces the players for the next at bat.
Katy Payne has been a fixture for the Hawks and has to her credit the one and only homerun in the short history for Canyon Lake.
The hit came last year in a 12-1 victory over Navarro….she made it count too, as the hit was a Grand Slam.
Payne has one of the most important places on the defense, behind the plate catching. The catcher is one of the most demanding positions to play based on how that player has to be in on every pitch.
She is having one of her best years, as Katy is batting .333 at this posting with 13 runs batted in (rbi). Katy also had her first stolen base in two years in her last game against Wimberley.
“I’m slow,” Payne deadpanned.
Payne is a contact hitter for the Hawks, she leads the team in at bats with 203 for her career, and only has 34 strikeouts in those three years.
Katy is also tied with Missy Romero for the most hits (63) at this writing.
Her line score for her career is pretty impressive:
. Ave. AB R H BI 2B 3B HR Katy Payne .310 203 25 63 40 11 2 1
Payne was also one of the top players for the Volleyball team the last two years being a playoff team.
Which brings us to her chance to do the same thing for the Softball team. A playoff ride and not only making the second season, but the chance of getting the second seed for District 26-3A.
The next two games for the Canyon Lake Hawks will have some well deserving young ladies playing their last games at home.
Come out and send them off to the playoffs and you will be able to tell who Katy Payne is, she is the one always wearing something on her head.
Whether it is the catcher’s mask or the helmet, you will always see her smile come through and that is the best stat that she can have in her life.
