Green Take Out Trash Beats Gold, 12-5

The Canyon Lake Gold and Green teams played one more game to settle who would take out the trash.

The Juniors baseball season had concluded last week, but the two teams with the same home town on their name did not play each other until now. The Green team is composed of mostly eighth graders and the Gold team seventh.

Going to the same school will entice the players to talk, and to put it succinctly the ReSporter got news from a Dad, that their was some ‘Trash’ talking between some players that needed to be resolved on the diamond.

The two teams scrimmaged to see who really had the bragging rights and who would be taking out the trash.

The game started with some stellar pitching from Green team’s Nick Cahill and Gold team’s Jayson Keltner. The score after the first three innings was 1-0 in favor of the Gold.

Keltner had a no hitter going into the fourth inning with a 2-0 lead. The Gold team had a nifty 6-4-3 double play and dreaming of being up on a team that had the best record in the Juniors season—16-2.

“I started real well to start the game,” Gold Pitcher Keltner said. “I just did not finish.”

“We had a good season for our first year,” Keltner continued. “We finished strong as a team.”

The Green team had other plans in the fourth inning when Cahill and Tyer Vinson both had doubles to start the inning. With two more singles and two batters reaching base on errors, the Green team had the first six batters scoring in the frame.

The Gold team responded in the fifth with three runs. TJ Thomas capped it off with a two run single. Thomas would score the last run with a stolen base and wild pitch to get around the bases.

The renewed hope for the Gold team now only down one run, 6-5 going into the bottom of the inning.

The Green team scored six more runs to end the game on only two singles. Cahill reached on an error, Vinson reached on a fielders choice, Hayden Dubois was hit by pitch and Colton Avey reached on another error.

The game was well in hand when Gordan McCleary came to bat. His at bat injured his teammate Brandon Bee, when he hit a rocket that stung like a Bee when it hit Brandon’s foot.

The play caused a pause in the action and Bee was helped into the dugout. The Green players were sitting outside the dugout during the hit, but after seeing the damage, many of the players felt safer watching with protection in the dugout.

The Green team scored six runs in the inning when the game was called….the two teams voted for the All-Star Team that will represent Canyon Lake next month.

Johnathon McGuire and Thomas had the two hits for the Gold team, while Cody Davis had some nifty plays in the field.

“We had too many errors,” Davis exclaimed. “We did pretty good this season, but we will be better next year.”

McCleary was the only Green player with multiple hits with two and Noah Ostrowski lead the team with two rbi’s.

Dubois for the Green team struck out six in the game, to lead all the pitchers while taking the win.

“We will throw them in the trash tomorrow in school,” pitcher Dubois said. “We might make fun, but then we will tell them they played a good game!”

The last phrase was an important comment, especially since the All Star team will be composed of both teams. The two teams will need to work as one when they get back on the diamond for more wins in June.

A better idea might be to share taking out the Trash next time.
