Canyon Lake All-Around Athletes 2010-11 Season
Canyon Lake High School had a very successful year in sports this past season, and awarded the coveted All-Around accolades to the female and male athletes for each grade classification.
The Hawks went two rounds in the football playoffs while the girls were highlighted by the first playoff run for the Softball team.
Many of the other sports continue to be impressive. Volleyball to Track and Field have all shown the students in the Canyon Lake area strive to be the best they can be in all facets of their lives.
Girls recipients:
Freshman: Hannah Graves
Sophomore: Katie Williams
Junior: Caitlyn Collins
Senior: Megan Browning and Tiffany Tschoepe
Boys recipients:
Freshman: Andrew Riali
Sophomore: Matt Andress and Eduardo Covarrubias
Junior: Brandon Berger
Senior: Garrett Hawkins
All the athletes above represented Canyon Lake in all the different venues offered. The ReSporter would like to honor the Seniors that represent the list.
When did Megan Browning have time to go to class? The young lady started in August, playing Volleyball and was very instrumental in helping the team reach the playoffs for the second year in a row.
Browning took on the setter row and never took her eye off the ball. After the season she continued with a larger ball that you could bounce and shoot.
She finished the year on the field of dreams (Softball) playing for the first team to finish in second place in district, while also making the playoffs. The leftfielder continued the season into May and hopefully has been resting up to play Basketball at Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas.
Tiffany Tschoepe also shared the award with Browning. They also shared many of the same sports. Tschoepe would of played more sports if she could of as the ReSporter remembers her wanting to be on the Swim team, except it was during the same time as her Basketball season.
Tschoepe was never tired on the court for Basketball or Volleyball, as she used her height to set rebounding records as well as blocking and killing the volleyball over the net.
She finished her career on the Track cinders running and doing everything else that was available. WARNING!! Reading the amount of events Tschoepe participated in might cause heart problems for those of us that might not be able to handle the load.
Tschoepe: (you’ve been warned)
Went to Regional in the Long Jump: 16’1.25”
High Jump: 4’8”
Shot Put: 31’2”
Ran alternate in the 4×100….4×200….4×400 relays.”
You get the idea…I hope you are still feeling ok.
The ReSporter is also pleased that their is another Tschoepe that will be a freshman this coming year, giving us the chance to continue spelling and saying the name.
Garrett HAWKins was the recipient for the boys. Hawkins was also a very busy person with a few moments when he was not playing something.
Hawkins took his last name seriously as he helped the Hawks with as many sports as he possibly could. If you remember in an earlier column The ReSporter, wrote about this young man as he became the Vocal point for the Softball team as they climbed the ladder in the playoffs. Hawkins was the person responsible for telling every player for the softball team that the fans ‘loved’ them.
“He (Hawkins) played it all,” Athletic Director Matt Monzingo said. “He was one of the most inspirational people and he was there everyday.”
Hawkins was no different than the two young ladies we talked about earlier. He played football, basketball, and set the record for the fastest 1600 meter run in school history and scored his first points for the ever improving track team this past season.
Coach Monzingo said it best when talking about Hawkins, “He did not get any gold medals, but he had a heart of gold.”
Congratulations to all the athletes mentioned above and enjoy the summer, because the fall sports will be right around the corner.
