There are several commercials that have been done with two flavors being put together for the best product. Reese’s cup comes to mind.
Senior Tight End Jeremy Fulton could very easily be that candy bar. Peanut butter and chocolate. The 6’1” 195lb player just needs to find out which part of the candy bar he will portray when the offensive play is called.
You see, the tight end has two responsibilities in football. They block like a tackle, guard, or center and then they can also release and be a receiver as a skill player.
We will continue talking about the offensive line, but now we will add the peanut butter and also mention the pass catching chores for this position.
Fulton came onto the scene last year and supplied the best tasting Reese’s cup ever. The three amigos in the receiving corps was lethal. Matt Magness, Richard Howell, and Fulton gave the defensive backfield too many players to key on.
Fulton ended the season with 25 receptions for 348 yards. The other two wide outs finished with over 500 yards receiving for the Hawks.
“I wear two hats at games,” Fulton admonished. “I’m part of the line and we consider ourselves brothers.”
Wearing the two hats will give you the idea of how much harder this position would be to play. You can’t mess up and think you are blocking when you are part of the passing play. Nor can you release on your block and go on your route when the offensive play was a run.
“After I hear the play, I find the person I’m suppose to block and I will do whatever it takes to get him blocked,” Offensive Lineman Fulton said. “ I do have a lot more responsibilities.”
When asked about the comfort factor in playing this position Fulton chimed,”This is all I have ever played….I’m very comfortable with the position.”
Fulton is having a good feeling about the offense for the upcoming season.
“We have most of our offense coming back,” Fulton said. “The defense is looking good too! We have a speed advantage with the defensive backs.”
Someone who would have an idea of the speed and plays against the DB’s in practice would be the tight end not the offensive lineman.
On what a goal for the two hatted player might be for this season, “I need to learn how to keep my feet and lower my shoulder so I can avoid tackles.”
The last statement came from the tight end and not the offensive lineman….this is getting confusing for the writer.
This Reese’s Cup is starting to melt in my hand because I’m afraid the ReSporter might mess up.
Lucky for Fulton and the Hawks, the position does not pose the same problem…maybe it is because once the Reese’s Cup is eaten it all ends up in the same place anyway.
That is the beauty of the tight end. Offensive Lineman or Tight End, the candy bar will taste the same and a job well done for the offense.
