Player Profile: Taylor Hocutt
The Profiled Offensive Lineman so far:
Wes Dicks RG 6’4” 270lbs
Logan Felch C 6’2” 190lbs
Jaaz McNair LT 5’10”190lbs
Ezra Barrett C 6’1” 240lbs
Taylor Hocutt LG 5’10”210lbs
So far the offensive line is up to 1,100 lbs and 30’3” tall. That would give a whole new idea of what a ‘pancake’ block would look like.
Taylor Hocutt is our next lineman to profile and it turns out that Hocutt had something in common with Jaaz McNair last year. McNair was sick the first part of the year and Hocutt was ill the last part of the season.
The two players were a revolving door and practically did not play together all season.
When asked about how the Summer has progressed Hocutt said, “I’m a lot stronger and I’m getting better and faster.”
The thought process for a lineman would be in the words of giving pain. “It is so much fun, to hit people on every play,” Hocutt quipped. “Looking into the face and knowing you are going to ‘pancake’ them.”
There’s that ‘pancake’ theme again. Sugar Free syrup would be very lonely when offensive lineman come to the table.
Taylor Hocutt is the third Senior we have talked to and helping the younger players is paramount for the line to be humming when the season starts.
When talking about the players in the platoon system for this coming season, Hocutt realizes that the system will need the help from everyone.
“We (the Seniors) will have to help the second stringers,” Hocutt substituted. “We will be the second coach.”
Coach Charles Wallen was also complimentary towards Hocutt. “He has great work ethics,” Wallen chimed. “He has great upper body strength and he is great for the running game.”
That is good news for what might be Canyon Lakes biggest strength this season, the running game. The holes opened up big time for the runners at the end of the season and that will be a big plus if the lineman can start where they left off in the Somerset game.
The line needs to stay away from the illness bug and allow the Hocutts of the world a chance to get a whole season in the trenches.
Instead of playing pro/wrestling when they have to tag their partner so they can substitute out of the battle. That is in essence what happened to two of the lineman last season. If this group of players can play as one throughout the season, then the running and passing game will hopefully hit on all cylinders and continue through the whole season.
I think it is time to start finding a good ‘pancake’ place to eat. These offensive lineman look hungry.
