3rd Edition for the Hawks breaking down the Games

Canyon Lake Hawks have a tough schedule the first of the season. Teams from Sealy to Lavernia to Austin will all be some games that either put CLHS on the map or maybe a ghost town.

The last third of the season is what saved the team last year when the Hawks finished with a three game district win streak.

The first game up is the Wimberley Texans.

Wimberley has been picked by Texas Football Magazine as one of the winners in the 3A brackets. The game this year will have a Hawk team that will be returning from Navarro and based on last years game, Canyon Lake would like to have a solid win under their belt in district before facing the Texans.

Wimberley is returning 16 starters from last year’s team, with eight each off the offense and defense.

Quarterback Brady Lambert returns along with the ‘thorn in your foot’ Brennen Blakemore for the Texans.

The game last year had some similarities in the Stat Box from the previous year:

2010             Canyon Lake    Wimberley

Total Yards 419            364
 First Downs 18             14

Interceptions 3              0

Thrown

2009             Canyon Lake     Wimberley

Total Yards 345             219

First Downs 19               8

Interceptions 6               1

Thrown

Two Game Total   Canyon Lake     Wimberley

Total Yards 764             583

First Downs 37              22

Interceptions 9               1

Thrown

You can see the problem that has risen in the last two years. Interceptions.

The offense has given the Texans nine interceptions and the result has not been good to the Hawks. Canyon Lake, as you can see, has controlled the line of scrimmage for the ground and passing game.

Does CLHS have a chance? You bet they do…the game is being played at Hawk field and if you remember the end of the game last season, then you might understand the resolve the players and coaches have for our friends to the north.

Last season, after an interception with less than two minutes on the fourth quarter clock, the Texans did not run out the clock for the win.

Wimberley proceeded to pass in order to run up the score…hence the final score with 26 seconds left on the clock for the final>38-18 score. Those are items that are hard to forget.

Boerne Greyhounds will follow the Wimberley game and once again the Hawks will have to remember what happened on their second year of varsity competition. Canyon Lake surprised a lot of teams that had put a whippin on them the year before on their run to the playoffs in just their second year.

Boerne will be in their second year of competition at the varsity level…does the ReSporter need to go on???

Yes, this should be a victory for the Hawks, but go ask Liberty Hill, Blanco, Llano, and Fredericksburg how they felt playing CL the second time. The game will be in Boerne so this will not be a good time to let the guard down.

Fredericksburg is next on the docket and the Billies have a new Coach on the sidelines. The Billies have a long way to go, but once again the same thing would of been said for Canyon Lake as their second year was after a 1-9 record.

Bandera was winless last season and the jump they would need to pass Canyon Lake will be a daunting one.

Look for the depth of the Hawks to give them a decent chance to make some surprise  outcomes on the scoreboard this season. Who will be the surprises? That is what makes the games on the schedule change with each week with different outcomes.

What we thought would be a marquee game might be a cellar dweller….hence, this time last year many people would of thought the Fredericksburg and Bandera game would be a barn burner.

The game turned out to be two winless schools looking for their first win in the contest.

Good Luck to the Canyon Lake Hawks and know the Hilltop ReSporter will be there every step of the way.
