Hawks JV Repels the Travis Rebels, 38-14
The Junior Varsity in name has won fourteen games in a row now. The swagger
that possessed the JV last season has engulfed another group of young man as they continue through this season.
“The boys played really hard,” Head JV Coach Trent Dunavant said. “We are once again very proud of how they prepared themselves for a road game. They had a very good week of practice and they keep getting better each week.”
The Hawks were up 26-0 before the Rebels could use the light bulbs in the scoreboard. The defense held Travis on their first drive and the rest was ‘history’.
Dominic Theisz started the parade, scoring on a 35 yard run that ended the 65 yard drive.
The next act was the Isaiah Gutierrez show as the receiver caught and ran 45 yards on a pass from quarterback Connor Ricker.
The offense has certainly been a mainstay for this team, but the defense has also contributed and this game was no different. The next two drives were thwarted by forcing two fumbles and keeping the Rebels in jail.
Karl Weidner started the next act on a four yard and 61 yard runs for touchdowns. The two scores would have the half time clock reading 26-8.
The defense wanted to do more than just stop a drive and so Colin Baker intercepted the pass and ran 87 yards for the pile on.
The play came after Canyon Lake had a fumble giving the Rebels the ball deep in the Hawks side of the field.
Theisz got to finish what he started after catching another pass and running the screen play for 30 yards and the final Hawk touchdown.
The dominance of the Hawks is starting to become contagious with the games starting to remind the fans and Coaches of last years team.
The JV will play next week at home on Thursday for a chance to see this team give the fans a look into what the future holds for Canyon Lake.
