Hawk Freshman Run out of Ink, Lose 6-0 to Texans

Canyon Lake could not get back on track in the second half as Wimberley Freshman only needed one score winning, 6-0 at Hawk Stadium.

You know how it is when you sit down to write a composition or essay and once the juices start flowing the Pen you are using runs out of ink.

That was the dilemma for the Hawks as the game progressed the offense just ran out of ink and the paper could not be finished.

The unfortunate thing about the game Thursday night is that the game did not finish at halftime. If that would of been possible, then the Hawks would of won on penetrations.

Wimberley had a good team with Running Back Wes Lambert scoring the first and only touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

“We had mental mistakes at crucial times,” Coach Brian Owens said. “Football is a game of inches and we did not get any inches tonight.”

The game started with CL controlling the clock, but each drive had one or two mental mistakes with the only recourse being a punt.

Case and point…on the second drive, the Hawks started on their 11 yard line and proceeded 53 yards when a penalty knocked them back five yards.

The play gained six yards and CL lost the ball on downs.

The first half had 89 yards of offense, but unfortunately the second half would be mistakes and a good Wimberley defense.

Hayden Dubois was a workhorse on the offensive side of the ball, but he made a bigger mark as a linebacker for Canyon Lake in the game.

“This was a hard loss for me and everybody,” Dubois said. “We worked hard in practice and I know we all played our butt off tonight.”

Both teams played hard nose football throughout, until the Texans were finally able to break through, scoring with five minutes left in the game.

Austin Acosta was the other linebacker that brought his ‘A’ game to the contest tonight.

Acosta responded when asked about Wimberley’s running back— Lambert, “He is a heck of a running back…but we came back and held them and slowed them down. We stopped them except for those two plays.”

“This was one of the hardest hitting football games,” Coach Owens surmised. “I’m very proud how we played…we are heading in the right direction.”

When asked about how the team would respond for the game next week against Boerne the two linebackers were in sync with their response.

“We are not going to let Boerne win,” Acosta said boldly.

“Friday starts the new week and game and we will practice long and hard,” Dubois claimed.

It sounds like the ReSporter will have to make sure the pen has enough ink for the next game. The players already seem ready to give us something to write about.
