Canyon Lake will be facing a must win this week on the road against a must win for Boerne Greyhounds.

Both teams are coming off of losses and are tied in District play along with Navarro and Fredericksburg.

The only game that can be compared will be a recent game for both schools. Navarro got beat by CL and beat the Greyhounds.

Both games were played on the road.

Navarro had over 500 yards of rushing against Boerne and that might make Running Backs Coach Levi Montgomery feel much easier after having facing Wimberley.

Boerne likes to pass the ball. They have thrown more than any other team in District, 177 times.

The Hawks will have to watch the quarterback, Wil Amick who is also the leading rusher for the Greyhounds.

Amick has rushed for 744 yards and the next closest in yardage is 144 yards from Karl Koch.

Koch has rushed 15 times and with a little math will equate to a tad more than two times a game.

Paul Burns is the leading receiver with 361 yards on 24 receptions.

Three other receivers also have over 100 yards and 11 receptions are more.

The defensive backs will have their hands full again this week.

One key to the game will be how the Defensive Line and Linebackers put pressure on Amick and also with the added responsibility of containing and not giving up big plays.

Amick has thrown for nine touchdowns but has 16 by running it in.

Last year Canyon Lake had one of their best defensive games against the Greyhounds. The Defense held Boerne to 60 yards rushing and 171 yards via the air.

Boerne has played enough games to be impressed with their passing defense. They have given up 75 yards per game…granted, many of the teams were run first offensives.

For the running game, Canyon Lake will be against a team that gives up 276 yards per game. This will be the part of the game for the Hawks to make some headway.

Canyon Lake took a beating last week, so how the team rebounds will be paramount. Especially since they have not had to do that yet this season.

Wimberley controlled the line of scrimmage and in so doing controlled the running and passing game.

Branson Belcher did not have as much time to pass and Zach Henshaw could not muster enough yards to take the pressure off.

This was the time of year last season that the offense got into gear.
