Canyon Lake Freshman Improve to 4-0, Beating Llano, 36-34
The Canyon Lake Freshmen Boy’s Basketball team improved to 4-0 on the
season with a 36-34 win over the Llano Yellow Jackets Tuesday night.
The Yellow Jackets raced out to a 13-4 lead after the 1st quarter, but the Hawks did not panic. In the 2nd quarter Canyon Lake patiently and efficiently scored 14 points to knot the game at 18 going into the half.
“I thought we did a great job of not getting flustered early on. We could have packed it in and let the game get out of hand, but we stayed with it, “ coach Luke Chapman said. “We settled down, handled the pressure and started making better decisions. All the credit to the kids for doing what we talked about in the huddle.”
The 2nd half was a very similar to the 1st half as Llano outscored the Hawks by five to take a 30-25 lead going into the 4th quarter. Yet once again Canyon Lake made a run of their own and squeaked out a nail-biter after a Yellow Jacket three point attempt was off the mark at the buzzer.
“We needed to slow it down,” Guard Garrett Winters said. “In the second half I tried to make myself to slow down and we got them to quit their press.”
