Coaches Corner: Bracken’s Lloyd Fields
The Bracken Christian Warriors has stepped into an off week thanks to a
Clear Lake team that decided it did not want to make the drive west to play the potent Warriors. This will give the Coaches a chance to scout some prospected teams for future games.
“We will be in Austin and Abilene this coming weekend to check out a couple opponents,” Head Coach Lloyd Fields said.
The Abilene game would have a team that might be a participant in two weeks, while the game in Austin will give the Warriors an opponent for next week.
The winner of Rockwall Heritage and Austin Hill Country will give Bracken it’s next team to play. BCS is practicing for playing one of those two teams.
“We have practiced this week in preparation and should be able to perfect our work outs this coming Monday,” Coach Fields interjected.
The tough thing for BCS is not knowing the opponent. Not really, you have a good chance of predicting the remaining games in the brackets based on the gulf between the strength of teams.
Bracken will be put into a class of four teams that have a legitimate chance of winning State this year.
The other three teams? Abilene Christian, Austin Hill Country, and Dallas Covenant have the records by looking at the games they have won…a vast difference between these teams and the rest of the league in State.
“We (BCS) will simplify our defense and concentrate on Austen Smith,” Fields said. “We have had to rearrange some players after the loss of Arnold Adame.”
Talking about the almost complete game played last week against Kerrville OLH, Coach Fields was pleased with how the game was played.
“The players enjoyed it and got to play some football,” Fields said. “I got to give the team a halftime talk which has not happened much this season.”
The Warriors, after this ‘bye’ week, will be going into their stretch run.
“Each week is a new season…any mistake will be magnified,” Coach Fields commented.
Which is a truer statement than many teams want to think about this time of the season, based on the alternative of losing and going home.
“Smith for Austin Hill Country is a better passer and Marshall Walker (OLH) is a better runner,” as Coach Fields compared the two playmakers for AHC and OLH. “Hill Country plays the basic six-man offense with Smith either running or throwing to the five spots on the football field.”
Bracken will coming into the game with a win over Hill Country albeit the first game of the season.
A lot of games since then and both teams will be a better crafted offense and defense, “Whoever does the best job will win the game,” Fields stated.
Now all BCS is waiting for will be their next opponent. The prognosticators have Austin Hill Country and if that holds true, then Bracken will be playing the Knights next Saturday at 1 pm, in Marble Falls at the same field where the Warriors played Marble Falls Faith two weeks ago.
