Hawks JV Boys Beat Comfort, 37-20
Canyon Lake improved to 7-3 on the year as they subdued the Comfort Bobcats, 37-20 at the Comfort gym last Tuesday night.
The Hawks took a little longer to get going as they led by just six points at halftime, 17-11. The good news was Comfort’s shots were colder than Canyon Lake’s on this warmer than usual December night.
“We played great defensively,” Head JV Coach David Bentzen said. “We ran our offense great and had great shots, we just have to start making them.”
The 33 percent shooting had to be a hard thing to watch from the bench for Coach Bentzen, but there were a few players that had a decent game.
Caleb Kreiger shot 55% from the field and ended with 12 points while pulling down six rebounds, which also led the team.
The Mendez twins, Isaac and Javier both shot 50% or better while also ending with two assists a piece. Their game also was rounded out with five steals and just one turnover between the two.
Turnovers has to be the biggest number standing out, as the Hawks committed a total of just four in the game by far a new record for the team and something to build on before district play starts.
Tyler Clark continued to play tenacious defense leading the team with four steals in the game.
The Hawks will tip again this Friday against Gonzales. They will have an early start time, 4:15pm right after the Freshman game ends.
