BCS Girls JV hold AHC to a Field Goal Win, 36-3

The field goal for Austin Hill Country was scored with less than three minutes on the fourth quarter clock while the BCS JV basketball team used a round ball to secure the win, Saturday at Bracken gymnasium.

The Warriors started slow by hitting only two of their 15 shots in the first quarter.

However, the rim got much larger the next three stanzas as BCS shot 60% and put the game away.

Briana Martinez continues to have a hot hand scoring 11 points coming off the bench. Every Warrior player had a steal in the game as Austin Hill Country could not find the basket.

The Warrior defense held the Knights to a miniscule three percent from the field matching their point total for the game.

Karagan Day starred on the defensive side of the court with four blocks and two steals for BCS.

Bracken Christian has no Seniors on their squad, so watching a sampling of the Varsity play on the Junior Varsity team gives fans a good indication of how good this team would be against other teams in the same age bracket.

The JV game only has six minute quarters, so this team enjoyed a point and a half per minute.

Good game all around as the sun set on the Knights.

BCS Varsity Girls:

The Bracken Girls Varsity team did not have an easy game as Austin Hill Country scored a resounding, 54-11 whitewash over the Warriors.

This game will need to be put in perspective.

Bracken Varsity Girls have four Juniors and only two of those players were able to play in this contest.

That left four freshman and five sophomores playing against a much more experienced lineup.

The result can now be tempered as Head Coach Steve Dement continues to teach and coach during every second of the contest.

You could see Coach Dement substitute players throughout the game and as players left the court a teaching moment would commence.

Hence, a capsule of what continues to be building blocks for a promising future for BCS.

Bright spots? How about 15 offensive rebounds. This shows aggressiveness which can always be cultivated with more maturity.

Thirty-three shots is also a positive attribute for any games. A coach once said, “ If you don’t shoot it, then you can’t make it.”

Shooting is an art form that comes with more practice, which once again will come during the maturity department.

Briana Martinez came off the bench again to lead all scorers for Bracken, while one of the shortest players on the court, Christy Paul, ended with seven rebounds.

Autumn Beck also had seven rebounds while guarding one of the two Austin skyscrapers.

One to two years from now this team will be dominated with a team that has experience. That will also translate to games with a score like below, but BCS could be that team taking it easy on their opponent.

One word….Patience!!!

BCS Varsity Boys:

Bracken Christian could not dig out of a hole they found themselves in early in the first quarter as Austin Hill Country snapped the Warriors two game winning streak, Saturday on the BCS Campus.

Ty Zunker led the Warriors with 14 points and floor burns for Bracken as the Knights made four shots beyond the three point arch and never looked back.

Chase Higgins pitched in with seven points, but BCS could not close the gap or reel the visitors back to the fold.

AHC continued making runs throughout the contest. There first run of 13 points during the first quarter took the competitive edge from the Warriors as they could not find a good offensive rhythm.

Bracken’s next game will be next Friday in Austin against Waldorf.

The next home game is Saturday, January 28 against Holy Trinity.
