Bracken Girls Lose first District Game, 46-28
The Bracken Girl’s Basketball team came up on the short end as district play started last Tuesday night at the Bracken Gym.
Kerrville OLH jumped out to a commanding lead and the Warriors could never catch on fire and reel the Hawks in losing, 46-28.
BCS did win the second half by closing the gap seven points.
The Warriors were led by a 16 point effort from Brianna Martinez. Martinez missed a double-double by one rebound finishing with nine.
“The second half we totally played a different game,” Brianna Martinez said. “The different offense for the second half helped.”
Bracken Christian made seven shots in the fourth quarter which was the same number of shots made the first three quarters.
Wendy Johnson also made her presence known on the defensive side of the court with eight rebounds for the Warriors.
BCS is a very young team with no Seniors and few Juniors on the squad.
The future will the end result for the pains of being thrown into the fire with the young players.
“We are a Freshman combined with a Junior Varsity team playing a Varsity schedule,” Head Coach Steve Dement commented. “We did well in the second half and experimented with every combination we could. We went to the five out offense in the fourth quarter and by bringing out the post player we got into a better routine.”
‘Experimented’ will be the operative word for this season for Bracken, but if this team can acquire patience, then ‘Successful’ will be the operative word for future seasons.
