Lady Hawks Lose in Overtime to Billies, 36-33

The bad luck Hawks have a chance to revamp their game as they will take a week off from games with an off date this coming Friday.

However, the game with Fredericksburg just added another anvil around the neck for a team with promise, but just not a enough trinkets to get them over the hump.

To say the game with the Billies was tight would be an understatement. The Hawks and Billies were tied after the first, second and fourth quarters of the game.

If the shooting and free throws were improved just a fraction, this team could be enjoying a great season. Now, Canyon Lake will need to take inventory over this off week to make sure they have their guns loaded for a stretch run that could still move them into the playoffs.

The last two games has certainly given CL an idea, that with just a little improvement the season is still within reach for goals set before the season started.

A total of 22 points were scored in the first half and the two teams combined for 47 points in the second half and overtime giving the fans a lot of heartburn.

Katie Williams finished with six blocks as her defense helped keep the game close. Amber Ramsey also chipped in with seven steals as she looked like a stealth bomber in making all those interceptions.

The 22% shooting was the main culprit once again for the Hawks, as they found it hard to find the bottom of the basket with their shots.

Free throw shooting didn’t help either, but when you are talking about a close game like this, the average fan can find many opportunities that were missed that would of given the home team a win.

The overtime period had the Hawks with a 31-28 lead with two minutes left, but the Billies outscored Canyon Lake by six points which allowed Fredericksburg to ice the game.

Hannah St. John was the hero in regulation as she sunk the tying basket with eight seconds left. St. John finished with 10 points leading the Hawks for the game.

Ramsey once again corralled eight rebounds to go along with her seven steals.

Exciting to say the least, however a 20 point win without the close games would allow fans to enjoy a game even more and less heartburn.

Canyon Lake will tip off next Tuesday against Navarro at the Hawk Gym.
