Lady Hawks Still in District Hunt with Win, 35-21
Canyon Lake used an air tight defense to keep their hopes alive for a playoff chance, winning, 35-21 over SA Hawkins. The Hawks needed some help to keep their hopes in tact when Wimberley beat Fredericksburg, 52-50. A Billie win would of all but clinched a playoff spot, but now if CL wins it’s next two games a chance is there.
“Not a real good offensive night for us,” Head Coach Mary Beth Gallagher said. “But a good defensive effort.”
Canyon Lake only had defense to hang their hat on as the basket only accepted three shots for the whole first half.
“We shot 3 for 37 in the first half,” Coach Gallagher said coldly. “We have to improve that for sure, but I like the way we are playing defense.”
The Hawks finished the second half winning 26 to 7 and turned a five point deficit to a more comfortable win.
Katie Williams led with nine points followed by her twin tower, Amber Ramsey, scoring eight.
Now Canyon Lake will have two games remaining against the two teams that beat them in the first round by a total of six points.
Can it be done? You Betcha, and sometimes all you need is a chance.
“There would be a flipping of a coin to eliminate one team and then the remaining two teams would play a game to decide,” Coach Gallagher said. “So, we are aware that a lot must happen for us to get in and so our focus is to win each game and not worry about what happens around us.”
The, around us, statement has been minimized with the Fredericksburg loss to Wimberley last night. Now Canyon Lake can control their destiny with two wins…enough said.
The next game is Tuesday, January 31st, for the final home game against Wimberley.
Game time will be approximately 6:15pm….you won’t want to miss it!!
