CL Track Season is Sprinting up Fast
Track and Field is one Sport that has given Canyon Lake a chance to lap many of our District 26-3A schools.
A look below you will find one part of the the team that has put other teams on notice. If the time is underlined, then that means it was good enough to win District.
Notice how 2011 races by our JV squad is close to beating our Varsity the first year of competition.

Notice how a miniscule 35 points scored three years ago by the wet behind the ears Canyon Lake teams.

Now you can see the excitement that has engulfed Canyon Lake as they prepare for a year that could make more inroads and hopefully a rise to a Fredericksburg type of season.
“The kids want to go to Corpus and run on day two,” Head Boys Coach Levi Montgomery started.
Corpus Christi is where the Holy Grail resides for this Region’s Track Meet.
Each of the last two seasons Canyon Lake has not been good enough to make it past the qualifying first day of the Meet.
“We are getting tough enough to have competition from inside the team,” Coach Montgomery explained. “In the past the team was practicing for the Meet and now more will simply have to compete with teammates to qualify for Varsity on Thursday.”
That comment on competing is the next step for Canyon Lake to bring that extra resolve to the track against other teams. The team has competed hard against each other which should make them even more prepared running or throwing against other schools.
“We will need the Kevin Nolans to try and do something and give us the depth and extra points,” Montgomery pointed out. “The middle distance and field events will have to improve for us to have a chance against Fredericksburg. The Billies will still be the team to beat.”
Getting points from Chris Nieland, Marcus Bolles, Taylor Hocutt, Jaz McNair, T.J. Gregory, and more will give you an idea of how Track will finish as the season takes the last turn.
The Hawks garnered 48 points in field events in district last year and will need more in order to reel the Billies in this season.
Jordan Anderson carried a lot of points as a Sophomore in 2011. This athlete scored 34 points last year in the District Meet. Anderson finished first in the 100 and 200 meter run and place second and third competing in the High Jump and Long Jump respectfully.
Canyon Lake has the athletes that have a chance to make history in their fourth year.
