Missy Romero Gets High Praise on Signing Day

This athlete for the Hawks Softball team has taken pen in hand and signed for a scholarship at Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Mississippi.
Romero has been the dominant pitcher for Canyon Lake for three years now working on her fourth campaign in the circle.
Accomplishments for this young lady is plentiful. Take a look at the stats below for pitching and from the batter’s box.
Romero has pitched 376 innings so far while giving up only 178 earned runs for a respectable 3.31 runs per game.
How about for every inning pitched, Romero has one strikeout.
Missy Romero presently has the leading batting average for Canyon Lake, batting .332 and is tied with her former battery mate Katy Payne with 40 runs batted in.
Romero leads Canyon Lake with the most doubles (17), runs (55), hits (72), triples (9), and also has the most walks at 41.
That is a lot of high praise for a player that has team carved on her heart…but the next part of this story is what Head Coach John Gallagher said about this young phenom.
Coach Gallagher has coached several players that have gone to college and continued their dream of playing after high school.
Coach Gallagher left Colorado as the leader for wins on the softball diamond. Which, by the way included several State Championships.
Gallagher, when asked about his thoughts on Missy was very direct, “She comes from a very competitive attitude and is everything you want in an athlete.”
That is high praise for Romero based on what Coach Gallagher has accomplished in the softball arena. But there was more:
“(I’m) proud of her in what she has done here in the past four years,” Coach Gallagher continued. “Combining her personality and her willingness to work and dedication for the team has been outstanding.”

Romero also was flanked by her family during the ceremony…her sister, Jessica Romero who played for Smithson Valley and her Mom and Dad.
“I am really glad she will pursue this (softball) even further,” Bobby Romero (Dad) interjected. “I just hope Mississippi doesn’t hold her for four years, so we can get her back to Texas.”
And, of course, Theresa Romero (Mom), who has watched this young lady reach this day, had high praise for her daughter.
“I’m very proud of how she brings a brightness to the room…She is giving and a team leader,” Mom said with great resolve. “Missy has great family values.”
Missy Romero also had some words for this special day, “It felt good getting college out of the way so I can focus on this year.”
When asked about this season and where she is for this time of the season, “Still working on things and I see a lot of potential for this team (CL). I will do my job.”
That is what has allowed Romero to reach this rung on the ladder for her career…doing her job, whether at the plate, fielding, or pitching.
That is a Job well Done! Congratulations….
