Softball: Hawks Rally Falls Short to Blanco, 7-5

Canyon Lake traveled to Blanco and ran out of gas before reaching the field, losing

to the Panthers, 7-5.

The Hawks finally figured out the Panther’s pitcher, but the four run seventh inning ended with a base running error squelching a chance for the comeback.

“We’re a young and learning team,” Head Coach John Gallagher said. “This is on the job training.”

Before the last inning, CL was only able to scratch out three hits while scoring one run. The run came in the fourth inning and brought the game to within one run for a tie.

Blanco answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning that increased their lead, 4-1.

In the sixth inning Blanco scored three more runs which proved to be enough for a win.

Canyon Lake decided to brave the cold and stay longer, as the seventh inning proved to this young team that a six run deficit was still within reach.

With one out, Emma Broussard started with a screaming single to left field. Another strikeout had Broussard on third advancing on a passed ball and wild pitch during the previous at bat.

Cue: Some of the Hawk fans folding chairs and stretching before the long eight mile trek back to Canyon Lake.

Mary Caroline Jordan was next to bat and on her third pitch deposited the ball over the left fielder glove for a triple and scoring Broussard.

McKenna Beseda had a seeing eye Texas Leaguer for a double scoring Jordan.

Another single from Missy Romero and another score, followed by Briana Young knocking the cover off the ball scoring Romero, now made the score, 7-5 and some nervous Panthers.

Cassidy Riccio who came in earlier to pinch hit got her second hit of the game, but the base runner was caught off second base ending the inning.

The good news would be Canyon Lake is now on a hit streak of five straight batters. Changing the game where the team scores in the first part of the contest will result in not having to rally and also keep some fans in their seats to congratulate their Hawks.
