Boys Track: CL Finish Strong in Hawk Relays

The Canyon Lake Track hosted eight teams Thursday as the weather and

competition lead to a great day on the cinders.

Canyon and Dripping Springs were the largest schools competing as Brownwood, Wimberley, Somerset, Blanco, San Antonio Cole and your Hawks rounded out the field.

Canyon Lake Varsity Boys finished third behind Canyon and Dripping Springs.

The Hawks set several team records for the meet.

Tony Hocutt added to his previous best with a Discus toss of 129 feet and two inches.

Jordan Anderson had another dominating performance as he also increased his school and personal best in the Long Jump by hitting 21 feet. Anderson also added to his and CL’s best 400 meter run with 50.93 seconds.

“Very productive,” Speedster Jordan Anderson said. “The best part is that I got the job done. I felt towards the end of the run (400 meter), of letting up, that is when I put a little more into it and that is all it was.”

Anderson finished by scoring 50 points for the second week in a row for Canyon Lake. To put that in perspective to other sports:
Zach Henshaw averaging 200 yards rushing per game….(which he did by the way)
Matt Magness averaging 30 points a game…

Logan Felch having a batting average of over .500 for the season…

You get the idea, the feat is in rarified air to say the least.

Christian Dittman had a personal best in the Pole Vault with a jump of 12 feet, when asked about his jump, Dittman exclaimed, “Practice, Prayer, and Parents.”

The 1600 Meter Relay team also finished in an All-Time Record clocking in with 3:30.46.

“I started a lot stronger,” Eduardo Covarrubias started. “I like the second leg better.”

“Taking Robin (Pedranti, who moved after school last year) left some big shoes to fill,” Zach Henshaw reflected. “We had finished second in the two previous relays and I told the guys that this race we were not going to do that again…we put it all out there and won with God’s help.”

“Go…Go…Go…,” Daniel Camarillo said very fast.

“We got out of the gates better,” Anchor Doug Hubnik closed. “We worked hard this week.”

It showed as this race was eight seconds better than the time ran in the Blanco Relays last week.

Canyon Lake has now won the Blanco Relays and placed third behind two 4A schools.
