Track and Field: Hawks get Two to State!

Jordan Anderson Takes First in 400 Meter Run

Jordan Anderson Takes First in 400 Meter Run

Marisa Ellis and Jordan Anderson will both be busy the next two weeks. As the Sports scene for the 2011-12 season for Canyon Lake draws to a close these two athletes will be showcasing their talents in Austin.

Marisa Ellis had her personal best jump when she cleared the 37 foot barrier by four and a half inches and in so doing will be one of the favorites in the Triple Jump.

Ellis will be one of six other athletes that has jumped past the 37 foot barrier at the State Meet in two weeks.

Last week in our conversation with the Junior Jumper, her main goal was to get past a standard that had been hard to get over. Now that she has broken that distance more goals loom in competing against eight other triple jumpers from around the State.

Jordan Anderson had qualified in five events and also had a personal best, breaking the 50 second time in running the 400 Meter Dash.

What is interesting is Anderson beat his best time in this event at District and seemed to be peaking in this event right at the right moment.

“I played the race in my mind all night,” State Bound Jordan Anderson said. “I dreamed about winning, losing, falling down, you name it…but I really was relieved after the race.”

There was three other runners that had run in the 49 second range and so it seemed that Anderson might be running up hill to be able to advance in this event. Especially since his best timed 400 was run two weeks ago in the District Meet at 50.16 seconds.

“Jordan was extremely focused this weekend, and ran a great race on Saturday to win the region,” Head Track Coach Levi Montgomery said. “He is peaking at the right time, and Jordan will may make some noise at the state meet. Should be fun!”

Canyon Lake Graduate Jessica Cunningham had been the only CL representative when she qualified in the Pole Vault last year finishing in fifth place for the Hawks.

Cunningham will now have company in this small Hawk Club with a total of two more joining this exclusive in the State Club.

The ReSporter will be running more articles leading up to the Texas State Meet in the days to come.
