Canyon Lake Scores in both Girls and Boys State Track Meet

Canyon Lake has another first when both Jordan Anderson and Marisa Ellis

Jordan Anderson finishes Sixth in Statei

placed sixth in their respective events this past weekend in Austin for the 3A-State Track Meet.

Marisa Ellis’ event (Triple Jump) was scheduled for Friday night and Ellis responded with a sixth place finish. Her 36-00.50, jump was off her previous best mark in the Region Meet two weeks ago, but the Junior can now concentrate on next season knowing what is possible as a Senior.

In our article earlier last week, you would have read where Ellis is not going to scratch and she followed through with her performance and not having a scratch on any of her jumps.

Ellis first jump was 34-07.75 and that had her in sixth place after the first round, where she ended up after her sixth jump.

The jump that solidified her placing was on her fourth try when she cleared 35-04.75, which had her a full foot further than the other three participants vying for placing in this event.

Ellis had her personal best jump two weeks ago when she cleared 37-04.50 in Corpus Christi.

This was the second year in a row for Canyon Lake Girls to score points at the State Track Meet. Jessica Cunningham competed in the Pole Vault last year for the Hawks.

Jordan Anderson was also scoring for the Hawks as this Junior improved his 400 Meter Dash time by almost a full second from his previous record two weeks ago in Corpus.

Anderson broke the 50 second mark two weeks ago with a first place run of 49.89. Now he has a sixth place run of 48.92 as he keeps raising the bar.

“Get out the gate,” Anderson jumped out of the blocks saying. “The first eight seconds were going to be critical and this was satisfying.”

This was the first time for a Hawk boy athlete running in Austin and being a Junior, it might not be his last.

Anderson improved on his 400 time by over five seconds from the first part of the season to the State Meet.

“I gave a 1000 percent,” Anderson said. “There were so many people there and I had a good lane (lane three).”

Will the two Juniors be back? Anderson was quick with his answer, “I’m in a very good position…the five guys that beat me were all seniors and this allowed me to put my toe in the water.”

“This year was not about my competition…getting my times down and being in good position was my goal. I will be in more events next year.”

Anderson did qualify for all five of the events he competed in for the Region Meet, but he took three events off the table to concentrate on just two for this season. The 400 and High Jump were the two events Anderson competed in the Region Meet with.

“The 100 Meter for sure,” Anderson said when talking about what events he wants to compete in if he qualifies for next year at State. “It was frustrating watching the winning time in that event knowing that you weren’t that far off.”

Now will be the first time in a while when Anderson will take a few days off, before getting ready for next season.

“This will be a good week of doing nothing,” Anderson sighed. “But now I can get into the skateboard season, start making videos, and some ballroom dancing.”

I can only imagine what ballroom dancing must be like for an athlete that can jump and is fast as Anderson…and I’m going to guess that his Video making will be in slow motion.

Coach Levi Montgomery will probably be praying that the Skateboard Season will go without any accidents.

And as fans that might have missed these two athletes in Track this year, will have a chance to catch their act next season as both Juniors will try to repeat next year.
