BCS Football Finishes Final Tune-up in Preparation for Season Opener

Bracken getting Offensive in scrimmage against Lifegate

The Bracken Warriors continued their final warm up before next Friday’s opening game on the road in Austin.

BCS will start under the lights at Austin Hill Country as they look to finish in the final four and hopefully one game better this season.

This scrimmage was staged at Seguin Lifegate with San Marcos Home School and the Panthers from Seguin.

Bracken secured wins in both scrimmages leaving the field ready to start the season.

“We played at the same tempo against both teams,” Head Coach Lloyd Fields started. “(We) had some key plays and some kids were playing out of position.”

Coach Fields was commenting about the number of injuries his team had suffered during the fall practices.

Jordan Rohlmeier and Preston Koch were both watching from the sideline nursing their injuries.

The reduced number of players has Coaches concerned more about not having anymore injuries versus on how sharp the team looked during the scrimmages.

“No one was hurt,” Coach Fields sighed.

Coy Zunker taking a rest after his last scrimmage before the Season starts

Senior Eli Achilles connected with Arnold Adame on several long pass plays which eventually opened up the opposing defense resulting in some decent rushing gains.

Another eye catching player enjoyed his second interception during the two game exhibition.

Cornerback Coy Zunker not only was playing the pass play, but could be seen taking down every runner or receiver in his zip code.

“Keep playing the way I’m playing in being aggressive,” Zunker quipped. “The second scrimmage slowed down this week.”

Zunker was responding to how much more he is understanding the game and what he needs to do to be successful on the field.

“I’m playing zone whether the opponent is in a tight or spread offense, I just need to watch the quarterback and split end to make my next play,” Zunker finished. “When I’m tackling I’m learning on how to go low.”

Next week’s game against Austin Hill Country will have two teams that are ranked first and fourth in the recent poll conducted by sixmanfootball.com. BCS are ranked first but the ranking is what it is, a ranking based on no games being played yet in this division.

Stay tuned as The ReSporter will have Pre/Game articles and other tidbits helping you to connect the dots for this upcoming season.
