Bracken Christian Has Productive Scrimmage
The Warriors started in familiar territory, when on his first carry at the tailback position, Davis Scott darted 60 yards in a scrimmage against Lometa last Friday at Bracken Field.
Lometa plays for UIL division and was also joined with Round Rock Christian for the scrimmage.
“Lometa finished in the quarterfinals last season,” Head Coach Lloyd Fields started. “They are predicted to finish second or third this season in their district.”
Bracken Christian scored a 3-1 victory as Eli Achilles teamed up with Arnold Adame for two passes that went for 50 and 45 yards.
“No pass hit the ground from the first team,” Coach Lloyd Fields said.
Coy Zunker was also singled out by the coaches based on his solid play defensively with an interception and several tackles.
The scrimmage had 15 plays on offense followed by 15 plays on defense.
“We had a good scrimmage against a good UIL team,” Fields said.
In the second game against Round Rock, BCS scored a 5-0 game and scored on one out of three plays for their 15 plays on offense.
Preston Koch had a 40 yard run from the fullback position which will have Koch taking the reins over from Ehren Jacobson who graduated this past May.
Eli Achilles also chipped in with a 55 yard run and then completed his time with two more touchdown passes to Adame for 60 yards and 50 yards to Scott.
The scoring was capped off with a nifty 58 yard pass play from Jordan Rohlmeier to Achilles to finish the scoring for the Warriors.
Newcomer John Colby had some new experiences as he joins the Warriors coming from Smithson Valley in the ‘crowded field’ game.
“John Colby blocked well in the spread offense,” Coach Fields said. “He has only had three days of practice.”
In six-man it is usually harder to adjust on the defensive side of the ball rather than the offensive side.
“(Austin) Wilkinson had a much quicker adjustment on offense last year,” Fields fielded.
Wilkinson was another player that came from the crowded field last season as a Senior and had a break out year for Bracken.
“We were concerned about our conditioning, but we held up very well,” Coach Fields finished.
Bracken Christian will have one more scrimmage in Seguin next Saturday as the Warriors prepare for another year and hone in on their skills and the season starting in two short weeks.
