Canyon Lake JV Lap the Blanco Panthers, 38-14

Canyon Lake Junior Varsity lapped the Blanco Panthers Thursday night at Hawk Stadium, winning

Running Back Hayden Dubois

their opener 38-14.

Running Back Hayden Dubois took the reins on the wagon and darted for 212 yards. The Blanco team was grabbing air as Dubois averaged over nine yards per carry with several impressive runs.

“It takes a good line to make a great back,” Dubois started. “All I see is the first down marker and then go for it.”

Go for it he did as Dubois did one better by also looking for the flags in the end zone too.

“When I’m running, I look for the hole and then just cut back, but without the upfield blocking I would not of had that.”

“My head is not on the yards I get, it is the team effort,” Dubois said eloquently in response to looking surprised when he heard how many yards gained in the game.

Dubois had his first scoring run come about in that manner when he reversed his field and cut threw the grain for 39 yards.

Offensive Lineman Ian May was ‘johnny on the spot’ when he laid a Panther out which sealed the deal and allowed Dubois to dart for the score.

Offensive Lineman Ian May

“Coach Wallen tells us to come as hard as you can and then knock them out,” May, maybe got in trouble with that last phrase. “After their pick six and kick-off return our defense did a good job…when we come out on offense we know we will score.”

Confidence is a good thing as you can see by this line the running backs will have a good year as the line will have their backs.

Canyon Lake scored on their first possession, driving 75 yards on a 10 play drive. The Hawks mixed the plays up with 27 yards passing and the running of Dubois and Dayton Dingman.

Running backs Dingman and Austin Acosta accounted for a respectable 10.5 yards per rush. The play up the middle was wide open as that play would of gained the same amount playing flag football.

“That run catches them off guard,” Dubois countered. “I’m glad they got those extra yards.”

During the end of the second quarter the fans got their money’s worth as both schools scored four times in a four minute span.

Blanco started the escapade when Logan Dodd took a Hawk pass in the flat and flat out ran the defense for a 44 yard touchdown that tied the score.

Canyon Lake answered with a five play 73 yard drive, capped off with a Dubois 32 yard run.

Blanco had Dodd doing the damage again when he took the kick-off back 85 yards in 13 seconds to tie the score again.

Canyon Lake would answer with a Shane Relkin 57 yard kick-off return to the Blanco 27 yard line and then a two play drive with a Tschoepe to Jared Bruckman 22 yard pass.

After the damage was done the Hawks went to the dressing room at halftime with a 22-14 advantage.

Canyon Lake controlled the game in yardage, but the interception and kick-off returns equalized the game.

The Hawks defense was not scored on as they continued to stuff the Panthers and finished off Blanco’s offense with 98 yards rushing and 47 yards through the air.

Canyon Lake controlled both lines which lead to a 24 point win.
