Bracken Christian will start this year on the road as the Warriors will try to finish this season with one more extra game.
The Warriors are playing a team that has beaten them two times. There are only two teams that have won two games against Bracken since they started play in 2006.
Austin Hill Country did finish last season in fourth place and will have a hard time having a better season.
Why? The Knights lost all six of their starters from last year’s team on offense and only one player returns on their defense.
That is a hard act to accomplish with that many new players. In 6-Man you only need a few decent players that can get you over the hump, so going into the game with a ‘we are going win’ attitude could spell danger for Bracken.
“They will play a spread offense and throw the football,” Head Coach Lloyd Fields said. “Last year they were big and quick and this year, little and quick.”
Since the 2007 season, Bracken has a lofty 53-9 record which is unmatched by any other TAPPS school during that time frame.
Senior Eli Achilles has a 35-4 record calling the signals for the Warriors as he enters his last campaign. Achilles worth can be felt on both sides of the ball as this young man will give the opposition pain when he gets to do the hitting.
On offense, Achilles also likes to block for his running backs and Junior Davis Scott will benefit from this complete player.
Scott has transferred from the Center position to running back and based on his scrimmages has grasped the offense and seems ready to have a break out season.
Junior Arnold Adame will try to continue where he left off last season after an injury that sidelined a good season from the Receiver position. Adame scored on 8 of the 11 catches last season and then pitched in with 92 yards rushing on six carries with another two touchdowns.
Impressive since his season ended on the eighth game, missing the last four contests.
Bracken has also lost several players from last year’s team and so there is a lot of question marks for both teams. The old adage, ‘that is why they play the games,’ will take a life of its own as this season starts to see what identity this Warriors team will morph into.
