Volleyball: Hawks on Four Game Winning Streak
Canyon Lake controlled Johnson City from the opening serve and were never behind their Eagle counterpart.
The Hawks won their last three games in Wimberley last week-end and continued on that hot streak as they continued to apply the pressure in this match up.
“We are serving more aggressively and we seem to be getting better each game,” Head Coach Nicole Creek said. “We can’t give them any thing easy.”
Last Tuesday during the opening games of this season, Canyon Lake was having a hard time getting their serves over the net, which would result in easy points for the opposition. Coach Creek seemed to be happy with how this part of the game is improving.
Twelve Aces served by the Hawks is case and point to that improvement.
Senior Marisa Ellis is never cheated at the cafeteria line, as this young lady seems to get several items on her plate each game. Ellis finished with a team high 20 Assists and also enjoyed four aces on the night.
“I like to hit it,” Ellis started. “I like to get the side out and I don’t want to get behind.”
That mission was accomplished by this player that has her hand in every facet of the game.
“Coach worked us hard this past week on our serves, she wants good serves, but also wants us to be more aggressive,” Ellis continued. “We did not have as much pressure in this game and hopefully we can handle the pressure when it comes again.”
Canyon Lake will continue their play as many games as you can in three weeks mantra as they prepare for their District 27 race.
Every team in District 27 has a winning record at this point of the season so there want be any slouches as the district part of the schedule gets going.
Johnson City was a good win and the Hawks beat them how they needed too, by giving them no chance to seize momentum.
Canyon Lake will continue with another tournament in Devine this weekend and their next home game will be September 4th against Lytle with the freshman game starting at 5pm.
Canyon Lake defeats Johnson City: 25-12, 25-12, 25-16
