Volleyball Coaches Corner: Nicole Creek
The ReSporter was able to catch up with Volleyball Head Coach Nicole Creek
to see where her team is in relation to District 27-3A starting next week. The ReSporter: What are your thoughts as District 27-3A starts to loom?
Coach Creek: “We need to figure out how to combine a great offensive game with a solid defensive game and we might be, ok. Our offense was the best it looked all season last night (game with Llano) but we could not produce defensively and made too many errors. In game four last night Llano only earned eight of their 25 points. We made 17 errors to give them the game.”
The ReSporter: Have you settled in on your substitution patterns and rotations?
Coach Creek: “I like our lineup right now…but I am always willing to change it if a change is needed. I want the girls to be comfortable playing with each other at the same time.”
The ReSporter: District will be the toughest since I have covered Volleyball, in other words, you could have one of your best teams and still not make the playoffs.
Coach Creek: “Yes, true statement. I have been telling them this since the beginning of the year. And I have referenced last year’s football season because that’s exactly what happened to them. We are trying to avoid that at all costs.”
The ReSporter: How did the scheduling end up giving the Hawks five district road games in a row?
Coach Creek: “Luck of the draw! Each school draws a number and they are placed in a UIL based round robin schedule. We do play our last three games at home and those three might be the most important, so its a trade off. We also start with our two toughest teams at home so hopefully this will be to our advantage.”
The ReSporter: How do you prepare for that weird scenario with the schedule?
Coach Creek: “Just let the girls know we need to start off strong…Also once football gets started with district we are matched up on Friday night so hopefully we can draw a crowd from people coming to the football game.”
The ReSporter: How much more room can your team improve as the season progresses? In other words how much higher is your ceiling?
Coach Creek: “There is always room for improvement in one way or another so its only as high as we can go…there is definitely room for us to improve on our defense and minimizing our errors.”
The ReSporter: Thanks Coach, we will see you this Friday before the CL Football game…good luck.
