Mountain Valley 8th Grade Blanks Billies, 0-0 and 14-0

Mountain Valley Eighth Grade ‘B’ squad did not get the better draw when thinking about start time for this game.

Rain was the winner when a downpour was going on through much to this contest.

Both teams could not muster 50 yards of offense as just holding onto the ball should of been worth extra points.

Mountain Valley started things off well when they took their first possession to the Billies four yard line. But this young club could not capitalize and gave the ball up on downs.

On this drive Andrew Neel to Mason Blackburn 32 yard pass play would be the biggest play and over half of the total offense for the game.

The play set the Hawks up deep in Fredericksburg territory, but the rains became the focus point as they continued negating a grand opportunity to score.

Which incidentally would of been a win based on how this game played out.

Charlie McIntosh also had a few good runs to help, but consistency was not present and drives could not sustain any momentum for either team.

Defensively Jaden Balmos was issued a Fredericksburg jersey after the game since he was on their side of the ball during most of the game.

Balmos was responsible four tackles behind their line of scrimmage resulting in 22 negative yards for Fredericksburg.

“I used my speed and tried to find the ball,” Balmos sacked the question. “They were in the trips formation and I was able to avoid the man on man blocking.”

Balmos was one of many Hawks that dominated on this rainy day as they will boat to another game next Thursday.

Mountain Valley Eight Grade ‘A’ team sunk the Billies, 14-0 last Thursday night at the wet Canyon Lake Field.

Heath McDonough and Dylan Compton were on the same wave length most of this night as they combined for six passes totaling 115 yards through the air.

“First couple of plays Heath was wide open,” QB Compton started. “Our line blocked very well, Defense played well too, Joe (Marple) was trying to strip the ball and we were all doing very good.”

“There corner was rathe small,” Split End McConough said. “It is awesome to break the century mark.” McDonough was commenting on having more than 100 yards receiving.

MV did not have a first down by rushing until the fourth quarter.

Another damaging statistic for Fredericksburg were there six fumbles and three of those miscues resulted in a change of possession.

“We play the run first and force the pass,” Coach Todd Woods said. “We adjusted our defense to keep them from making big plays. Defensively we were all over the ball and we never gave up a big play.”

On Mountain Valleys first drive you would get an idea of how offensive plays were successful and not so successful.

First play was 31 yard pass play.
Next two plays were running plays for -10 yards.
Then another pass play for 27 yards.
Two running plays for seven yards.
Another pass play for 12 yards.
How about three running plays next resulting with two yards.
Finish Fredericksburg off, by the pass for 12 yards and their first touchdown.

Passing had a much better chance for positive yardage in this game.

Mountain Valley scored again in the fourth quarter after another loss fumble on the Billies one yard line. Compton finished off Fredericksburg with a one yard QB sneak and a victory.

The Hawk defense held the Billies to 3,7 yards per play in this game helping those 14 points to hold up.

Bandera is next as both A and B squads will try to keep their scoreless streak in tact.
