The last time SA The Winston had a longer winning streak than Bracken Christian coming into their annual game this week was never.

Winston is riding a four game winning streak and another win this week would tie their total wins from last season. The Eagles only had one win in district last season and have already passed that total.

By looking at the history of games you will notice that The Winston has not played a full game against BCS yet. All their games have had that ‘Mercy’ moniker placed on them up to this point.

This Eagle team seems to have changed their game plan from the start of this season and now.

Their first games were more passing oriented and now Winston is running like their is no tomorrow.

Winston is averaging right at 20 passes per game and 130 yards per game.

Rushing has been upgraded as the Eagles averaged 170 yards on the ground and in their last two outings have up the ante to 360 yards via the handoff.

Bracken will need to keep an eye on #13 Saion Peterson as this 6′ 195lb will be lethal by running and tackling his opponents.

Peterson is averaging 177 yards rushing and also averages double figures in tackles with 11.

John ‘Drew’ Gray is The Winston answer to Preston Koch for Bracken. Gray will be short yardage and goal line runner. His size, 6’2″ 235lbs will also help in his blocking and tackling. Gray is presently averaging 10 tackles per game.

The ReSporter will do a comparison between Peterson and Gray with Koch and Eli Achilles.

Rushing Att Yds Ave TD Receiving No Yds Ave TD
Peterson 76 895 11.8 16 Peterson 7 88 12.6 2
Achilles 75 1355 18.1 31 Achilles 0 00 00.0 0
Gray 36 200 5.5 7 Gray 20 270 13.5 8
Koch 50 400 8.0 7 Koch 14 188 13.4 1

The totals above would certainly give Bracken Warriors the edge. This goes without even mentioning both teams supporting cast.

Bracken’s Achilles really sways the pendulum for Bracken with his bag of tricks being the primary passer and also averaging 17 tackles per game.

Bracken is coming into this game after scoring the most points in their history against Gustine.

The Warriors would of certainly passed that total several times in the past, except that a good defense will prevent those scores since a team would be hard pressed to score that amount when playing only one half.

Bracken had their top rushing total ever and also were in the top ten games with their passing game.

The winner of this game will have an easy route for being seeded second for the playoffs.

Winston has already beaten Kerrville OLH which is the fourth best team in this district. SA Lutheran and CASA will win only one game in district. That game will be against each other.

So you have a four team district but the gulf between Geneva-BCS and the rest of this year’s teams is not close.

The only common opponent is Austin Hill Country.

Those Knights won in their second game of this season 48-44 over Winston. While BCS beat Austin Hill Country in a mercy game starting off this season, 56-6.

Bracken should continue their mercy games in San Antonio this Friday night as this Eagle team really does not have an answer for Bracken’s top players.

This should be another game of learning for the Warriors. BCS really needs to work on how they will approach their bonus kicks. That part of their game might come back to haunt them as this season moves into the playoff format.
