CL Wins Fourth Quarter, 17-14, But Lose Game, 53-49
Canyon Lake will be getting more air punps for game day as the Hawks started another game flat in their loss to Stockdate Brahmas last Tuesday night at Hawk gym, 53-49.
The Hawks left 14 points on their free throw line as well as putting a lid on their basketball rim which helped in this loss.
CL did not respond well to start the game and played from behind throughout this contest.
“There are a lot of bad things we did in this game, but at least we fought and did not give up,” Head Coach Lucas Chapman said. “We finally had a lot of pluses in this game.”
Late in the third quarter, Stockdale increased their lead to, 38-26 with 2:24 left in the quarter.
Canyon Lake cut into that lead and only trailed, 39-32 going to their bench.
Stockdale was a good free throw shooting team and foul trouble was entrenched with CL four most of the second half. The Brahmas had increased that seven point lead back to 12 points with just one minute gone in the fourth.
Then some defense mixed in with some three pointers had the Hawks trailing, 42-45 with 3:46 left in this game.
Canyon Lake had a couple of possessions late where a field goal would of tied the score.
Head Coach Chapman commented on why he did not call a time in those situations, “I could of called a timeout, but I couldn’t have called a better play than what we got on those possessions.”
Their were some sparks here and there, but most of those fireworks happened in the fourth quarter.
It is now apparent that the Hawks need to put their fourth quarter jerseys on to stem a negative tide that takes over after the opening tip.
Andrew Riali did supply some energy during that final stanza, when he responded with 11 of CL’s total of 17 points in that quarter.
“I was just in a zone,” Riali said. “They put a better defender on me and that is when I got back and shot another one.” Riali was commenting on one of those three pointers being well behind the arc.
Three straight shots behind the arc and another one that was called off because of an earlier foul call.
Riali also responded on defense when he took three charging calls in the game.
“I’m trying to play good help defense,” Riali stated. “I was just trying to move my feet.”
On what needs to happen to get on track, Riali commented, “We need to get out in front like we did in the fourth quarter and play the whole game like that.”
Now let’s go over some points about this game and why you can feel optimistic:
