CL Hawks Boys and Girls Basketball Week’s Recap

Basketball Weekly Report:

The Canyon Lake Varsity Girls team lost their first two games in Johnson City Tournament last week and in so doing, could only tie the longest winning streak at six games.

Lago Vista and Marble Falls Faith teams were the two losses and CL was able to get back on the winning track in their last game playing host Johnson City.

Canyon Lake has a decent team with a 7-2 record and will have a tough opponent tomorrow night, when Lampasas comes to Hawk country.

The Badgers are on a seven game losing streak and Canyon Lake will need to take care of business this Tuesday.

Canyon Lake has been winning this season on pure hustle as all three scoring positions have a low percentage of success.

 Team 2Point 3Point Free Throws
 Percentages 36.7% 32.9% 39.2%

As Katie Williams and Amber Ramsey go, so goes the Hawks.

This tandem has been a strong combo underneath the basket and when they can get active in scoring points, then a win can usually follow.

Williams and Ramsey together average over 21 points a game, which is almost half of CL’s total scoring this season.

These two girls also have 25 blocks which also totals the team’s amount in that category.

Rebounding, is also a part of their game where they are controlling both sides of the court, averaging over 17 ‘bounds per game.

Canyon Lake is deep, but presently only have three players with a percentage that is above 50% from the charity stripe.

Another deficiency is in handling the ball with a hefty 22 turnovers per game.

Canyon Lake prepares for their Tournament this weekend and hopefully can start to improve on the little things, so they don’t become big things in District 27-3A play.

District looks to be shaping up to be another donny brook, where five teams will be vying for three playoff spots.

Navarro looks to be the front runner again this season.

Bandera has not won a game yet this season and so that might be the District’s only weak link.

Fredericksburg’s team does not have an excellent record, but they have played several teams that are from 4A and 5A districts.

Boerne has also taken that same approach, while Wimberley is always the toughest team to get a handle on based on this school never releasing results to outlets to compare how they are performing.

This is all to say that Canyon Lake has a decent chance of moving up the District 27-3A chain this season, but it could be an up and down road if those percentages don’t improve.

Canyon Lake Boys are in a parallel universe from Canyon Lake’s Girls team.

When the Girls win—the Boy’s Lose; When the Girl’s Lose the Boy’s Win.

The Hawks need to plan a dance in the near future so each team member can get on the dance floor and practice on not stepping on each other’s feet.

Canyon Lake did finally step out of that losing shadow for their first two games in the Marion Tournament this past week-end and that certainly helped in knowing that all the hard work and sweat was not going to waste.

The Hawks lost in their Championship game against Randolf, but playing for a Championship was a good step in the right direction.

Last Tuesday, CL lost their game in Llano, 51-39.

How will the Hawks respond after a decent showing in Marion?

Canyon Lake will be at Lockhart this Tuesday night as they also prepare for the CL Basketball Tournament this coming week-end.

Lockhart is 3-3 out of the gate and Canyon Lake will try to improve in every facet this week going into their Tournament.
