Saturday, April 14th, 2012

Canyon Lake will be well represented in Corpus Christi for the Regional Meet in two

weeks as the Hawks finished in second place for the last two years.

The top two finishers get another chance to reach Austin for State Track Meet in May.

Jordan Anderson was high point for the Meet with 48 points, missing a first place in the Long Jump by 0.25 of an inch.

The 48 points beat Bandera’s entire team and was only 21 points off of beating Wimberley.

Anderson will now be in the ‘running’ with five events in the Regional meet with a chance of finishing second or better in any event which would give him another week of competing in Austin.

Canyon Lake was also able to send all three Relay Teams to the next level as the usually strong Mile Relay team having to huff and puff to finish third to run for another day.

Canyon Lake continued their week of comebacks by beating Wimberley, 3-2 last

McKenna Beseda

Friday night on Senior Night.

The Hawks beat another team that was over them in district play in a must win scenario and puts CL in a position to forge into the playoffs for the second year in a row.

District 26-3A has a crowded field atop the standings as four of the six teams find themselves with just one game of separation.

Canyon Lake drew first blood when McKenna Beseda reached base on an error and then completed the play when Wimberley’s short stop could not hold onto the ball as Beseda slid into second base.

After McKenna completed her tear on the base baths stealing third base, Senior Missy Romero scored Beseda on a sacrifice fly.

District 26-3A has started Tuesday and will be finishing up

Reaching for more Distance

tomorrow with the 4×400 Relay.

Canyon Lake is the team to beat for this event as they blistered the Track in their last run in Dripping Springs.

The ReSporter will end it’s report on the district events for the girls.

Fredericksburg has been the team to beat, but this might be the closest the other schools have been to the Billies in quite a while.

Relays are the next and last set of events to be diagnosed for this season.

The ReSporter hopes you have enjoyed these ‘Breakdowns’.

Softball: CL has BIG WIN, Beat Bandera, 4-1

Tuesday, April 10th, 2012

Canyon Lake won another big game Monday night as they outlasted First

Senior Missy Romero

Senior Missy Romero

Place Bandera at Hawk Field, 4-1.

The win is huge as the teams jockey for playoff position.

Bandera had beaten every district foe in the first round of games and now with a Hawk win, it will allow the girls an extra loss.

If Bandera runs the table from the rest of district play, then the Hawks will benefit by being the only District 26-3a team to beat the Bulldogs.

Missy Romero did the damage from the plate and circle.

“We played with alot of confidence compared to the first meeting,” Head Coach John Gallagher said. “Romero kept them off balance all night.”

The Hawks had another big fifth inning as Brittney Schoettle reached base on an error. Mary Jordan then bunted and reached base adding pressure to the visitors. McKenna Beseda was next with a hit to load the bases for Romero.

Romero had a hard single up the middle scoring two and then vintage Beseda scoring on the throw home.

Romero also helped her pitching counterpart with a double and scoring on a Briana Young single.

Holding Bandera to one run and also contributing three rbi’s made the result very sweet for a player that had wanted this team.

Canyon Lake Boy’s Track Breakdown: Relays

Tuesday, April 10th, 2012

The Hawks have a good group of guys running the relays. Pretty simple synopsis…

Zach Henshaw first Leg of 4x100 Relay

Zach Henshaw first Leg of 4x100 Relay

Canyon Lake beat there all-time best in all three relays at the Tiger Relays in Dripping Springs over a week ago.

The Mile Relay was brought down enough to give this foursome a chance to make State.

Both of the other two relays might need some good hand offs to maximize a time that would have a chance to make the next level.

Canyon Lake won all three events last season and this foursome has been together all year and have a good balance and work well together.

Eduardo Covarrubias, Doug Hubnik, Daniel Camarillo, and Zach Henshaw look to be peeking right at a good time to bring home some medals.

Below is the run down for the Relays as well as the projected finish of this year’s District 26-3A Meet.

Girls Track Breakdown: Distance & Hurdles

Sunday, April 8th, 2012

After going over the Sprint Events earlier, The ReSporter will now delve into Distance

Mariah Ellis leading the way

and Hurdle events from the District 26-3A schools.

At our last writing, Fredericksburg had 31 points with Wimberley and Bandera close behind scoring 25 and 18 respectively.

To go over how this evaluation transpires: The ReSporter has dug up as many of the Track Meets from all the schools and have put the results in a competition against each district team.

This will give you a good idea of how the Meet will unfold this coming week. If there is one constant for Track is that all the runners will run against the clock and this will give you a good way of seeing the event finish.

Athletes times should be constant in theory no matter where they are running. However there will also be different weather patterns and running against tougher competition will equate to better times and distances.

Softball: Hawks Walk All Over the Greyhounds, 10-1

Sunday, April 8th, 2012

You have heard of the old phrase, ‘a walk is better than a hit’, well last Thursday

Centerfielder Mary Caroline Jordan

Centerfielder Mary Caroline Jordan

night in Boerne, the CL Hawks got to practice that adage in a, 10-1 victory over Boerne.

Here are some numbers that show the wildness of the Boerne pitcher.

Sixteen walks, countless wild pitches and passed balls (which accounts for the low number of rbi’s), and four Hawks that were hit by pitches.

Canyon Lake had an on base percentage of .533 as a team and pretty much just needed a leash in order to go ‘Walk’ the dog. (Greyhound)

There were three Hawks that were able to escape the walk on their at bat.

CL Boy’s Track & Field District Breakdown

Saturday, April 7th, 2012

After evaluating six events for Sprints and Distance the District Scores so far are in

Junior Eduardo Covarrubias running in the Hawks Tri-Meet

Fredericksburg favor.

The distance runs helped the Billies score 51 points worth of separation for the rest of the district teams.

At our last writing the District 26-3A race was as follows:

91  Fredericksburg
39  Canyon Lake
20  Boerne
15  Bandera
12  Wimberley
3  Navarro

Now this writing will concentrate on the Hurdles and Field events.

There will be eight events for this breakdown.

110 Meter Hurdles:

Navarro’s Miricle has the best time (15.56) for this run. Fredericksburg will once again dominate as they have the second, fifth, and six best times.

Boerne has the third and fourth best times. This will have three teams that can score for these hurdles.

Canyon Lake has the seventh and eighth best times and could make an appearance, but something would have to befall another runner to place.
