Canyon Lake Classic – Boy’s Bracket
Wednesday, December 5th, 2012CL Hawks Varsity Boy’s, Beat a Lockhart Lion, 55-43
Wednesday, December 5th, 2012Canyon Lake flew away from the Lockhart Lions, 55-43 last Tuesday night in Lockhart and has now won three of their last four games.
Caleb Kreiger was the difference in this contest as he poured in 35 points, which is a new record for points in one game.
“Caleb played a great game,” Head Coach Lucas Chapman stated. “He played within himself and didn’t force too much. He took what they gave him and played to his strengths.”
“He (Caleb) was in attack mode, which is better than him standing outside and shooting threes. I think he did a good job of getting into our offense, and when we do that, Caleb can get some good looks.”
Chapman finished, “The thing I like most about Caleb is the first thing he talked about after the game was getting better on defense. That just shows you the type of kid he is and he is always looking to get better.”
Other contributors were Paul Davis who also made double digit points with 11, while Doug Hubnik finished with 10 assists.

Freshman Girls Improve to 8-0, After Winning Squeaker over Lampasas, 30-29
Wednesday, December 5th, 2012Canyon Lake Freshman Girls continue an unblemished year after coming from behind to win over Lampasas last Tuesday night at Hawk Gymnasium, 30-29.
The Hawks battled being down as much as 11 points going into halftime.
CL scored four points in the second quarter quicky but then a lid was put on their basket and that was all they could get for that quarter.
In the third quarter, CL continued their cold shooting. In fact, the Hawks only had nine points through the middle two quarters, which allowed the Badgers to seem invincible, holding a 25-15 advantage scurrying into the final stanza.
Starting that final quarter, Canyon Lake staged a quarter that you could only dream about: fifteen points, which happened to be the Hawks total for the first three quarters. Impressive, to say the least.
CL Girls Beat Lampasas in Overtime, 37-35

Junior Olivia Flores Beaming from CL's Overtime Win over Lampasas
Canyon Lake Girls won their second overtime game this year when they beat the Lampasas Badgers, 37-35, last Tuesday night at Hawk Gym.
It took the Hawks over four minutes to start the game, before Kelly Long sank one of her two free throws to finally have points on the scoreboard.
After that free throw, Olivia Flores extended the line past the arc and proceeded to make her four three point shots over the next three quarters without a miss.
Those 12 points were half of all CL’s points through the first three quarters and helped keep your Hawks in this game and even helped craft a lead through those middle stanzas.
Flores first missed shot was in the fourth quarter, but it was her lay up later that quarter that tied the game with only 43 seconds left in regulation.
“I had it going left handed and then I was so disappointed when I thought it was coming back out,” Flores said. “Then I saw it go back in and my prayer life had just gotten better.”
Canyon Lake was down, 33-29 with a 1:10 to go, when Hannah St. John made her first shot of the game. That pulled the Hawks to within two and waiting for Flores last heroics in regulation.
CL Freshman Boy’s Win over Lehman place Hawks 5th in Wimberley Tourney
Tuesday, December 4th, 2012Canyon Lake Boy’s Freshman team also played in the Wimberley Tournament this past week-end and below you will have a couple of games results.
Both games were played on Saturday and CL lost in their first game against Texas School for the Deaf, 53-37.
Some of the players were commenting on how quiet the game actually turned out to be. When their opponent did not talk, neither did the Hawks.
Communicating is important in any sport and The ReSporter is sure that even so their opponent was deaf, you can bet that they were communicating.

The battle for 5th Place in this tournament was a match-up with Lehman.
Canyon Lake started slow and could not get any traction as they scurried into the final quarter trailing, 44-38.
CL Hawks Boys and Girls Basketball Week’s Recap
Monday, December 3rd, 2012Basketball Weekly Report:
The Canyon Lake Varsity Girls team lost their first two games in Johnson City Tournament last week and in so doing, could only tie the longest winning streak at six games.
Lago Vista and Marble Falls Faith teams were the two losses and CL was able to get back on the winning track in their last game playing host Johnson City.
Canyon Lake has a decent team with a 7-2 record and will have a tough opponent tomorrow night, when Lampasas comes to Hawk country.
The Badgers are on a seven game losing streak and Canyon Lake will need to take care of business this Tuesday.
Canyon Lake has been winning this season on pure hustle as all three scoring positions have a low percentage of success.
Team 2Point 3Point Free Throws Percentages 36.7% 32.9% 39.2%
As Katie Williams and Amber Ramsey go, so goes the Hawks.
This tandem has been a strong combo underneath the basket and when they can get active in scoring points, then a win can usually follow.
Williams and Ramsey together average over 21 points a game, which is almost half of CL’s total scoring this season.
These two girls also have 25 blocks which also totals the team’s amount in that category.
Rebounding, is also a part of their game where they are controlling both sides of the court, averaging over 17 ‘bounds per game.
Canyon Lake is deep, but presently only have three players with a percentage that is above 50% from the charity stripe.
CLJV Boys Finish in Second Place in Texan Tournament
Saturday, December 1st, 2012Canyon Lake Junior Varsity had a good run, finishing second in the Wimberley Baskeball Tournament this past weekend.
The Hawks won their morning contest against host Wimberley, which gave this never say die team a chance for a first place trophy.
Wimberley had a defense that forced eight turnovers in that first quarter and that allowed your Hawks only six shots at their basket.
Four made free throws helped close the gap for just a three point deficit going into their next quarter of action.
CL would win their next three quarters as the Hawks started taking better control of their possessions.
The third quarter was a telling stanza as Garret Winters was red hot from behind the arc scoring 12 points (all 3 pointers) that gave the separation from our friends to the North.
CL Boys are in Championship game in Marion Tourney After Win
Friday, November 30th, 2012Canyon Lake more scores from todays Tournaments:
The Hawks Freshman team split their two games on Friday in Wimberley and will have a morning game Saturday which will decide what place they will be playing for that afternoon.
A win will have the CL Freshman playing for 3rd Place and a loss will have your Hawks playing for 5th Place.
The Freshman were led by Hayden Lee in their win over Gonzales as 11 players were able to get on in the scoring book.
A good all around game.
In their second game the opposite was true, everything that fell in their first game would not go through the hoop in the second game.
CL Has Three Tournaments this Week-End
Friday, November 30th, 2012Tournament Time for Canyon Lake as Varsity Boys are in Marion, Varsity Girls are in Johnson City, and JV and Freshman Boys are playing in Wimberley.
CL Boys JV team won their second game on Friday and will play again in tomorrow at 9am against Wimberley with the winner playing for a Championship and loser for Third Place at Wimberley.
In CLJV second game, the Hawks were never threatened as this Gonzales JV team could not outscore any of CL’s individual quarters using every quarter adding up to only 13 total points.
Canyon Lake was lead by a whole host of players, but Garrett Winters was almost perfect with only one missed shot for the game.
Winters finished with 17 points and Austin Acosta had 16 points while also distributing six assists against the Apaches.
The Hawks shot 73% from beyond the three point arc and a salty 48% from the field in this game.
Nic Adams had 10 rebounds and seven players along with Acosta dished out an assist.
Total domination for your Hawks in this contest as the clock hit 6:30 left in the first quarter a three point shot from Trendon Martinez gave CL a lead that would never be threatened.
“We have an improving offense and we are moving the ball more,” Coach Brian Hooper said. “We did not make mistakes and we were taking good shots and hustling for the whole game.”
Hard to critique a 60 point win, but you could look at those free throws if you wanted to find something to do in your next practice.
Maybe you can petition the Basketball Officials and see if you could move that charity stripe back to the three point line.
Varsity Boys won their first game in Marion Tournament.
Varsity Girls lost their first game in Johnson City Tournament. Lago Vista won 47-36.
Freshman Boys finished 1-1 with a 53-23 victory over Gonzales and their loss was to St. Michael.

CL Girls Basketball Starts Season, 6-0, Beat Luling, 41-40
Wednesday, November 28th, 2012Canyon Lake girls basketball increased their winning streak to six games, after winning an overtime game last Tuesday night against Luling, 41-40.
By far the best start in the short history of Canyon Lake Basketball as the Hawks held on for a win by the thinnest of margins.
CL, now has a winning margin of 20 points on this streak and games will start getting tougher, as the Hawks have a couple of upcoming tournaments and a Lampasas game on the horizon.
Eight different Hawks scored in this game and Sophomore Kyndall Drum had high point honors with eight points.
Amber Ramsey and Katie Williams once again combined for a low total (12 points), which can also be a blessing, since this will be a long season and more chances where the rest of their teammates will have to respond to continue a chance for another win.
CL clamped down on Luling in the second half by holding the Eagles to only 12 points, including an overtime period.
Lots of depth, which can only help as many road blocks can present themselves during a season and game situations.
