BCS Warriors Fall Short in Loss to Lions, 57-35
Bracken Christian had battled and won four games in a row in making the playoffs this year, but
they found a match-up that this Warrior team could not stay with for four quarters. After that first quarter, BCS had a decent result only trailing three points. The Warriors had a lead with a little over two minutes in that quarter until the lid was placed on the rim.
That result had Central Texas Christian scoring 13 unanswered points and forging into a lead that was never relinquished.
BCS had Senior Post Wendy Johnson with 7 of those 9 points in that quarter, while dominating the paint with two blocks.
On a couple of those baskets, Johnson was an easy target displayed by her height on the inbound pass under the Warriors basket.
That play was worth some valuable points getting BCS back into a lead and stopping the Lions momentum. Johnson finished as the only Warrior with double digits, scoring 11 points.
“They (Coaches) picked me because I’m the tallest,” Johnson said.
Johnson also had that same play in the second half but this time pulled out and shot a 3pointer.
“I was just nervous and went outside and shot it,” a calculating Johnson said. “It doesn’t hurt to shoot it.”
Johnson has been a big part of Bracken Sports these past few years and had tears of joy and sadness as the clock reached that 0:00 mark.
“Even though we didn’t win, I couldn’t of asked for a better team and I love them a lot,” Johnson finished.
Bracken was an underdog throughout this season but responded with a great end of their campaign as they forged on in their last few games to qualify for the playoffs.
“We improved a lot,” Slinging (with a broken arm) Head Coach Steve Dement said. “We got better as this season progressed and our effort was there….we hustled and played hard.”
Yes, it was a loss, but you could see Bracken take this game in stride and many times there will be other teams that just have a better chemistry.
And of course, some teams can pose a better match-up, causing problems for other teams.
“When we have played quicker teams, we have had a hard time getting our game going,” a dodging (ball) Coach Dement closed.
Warning for future games, don’t play with ‘matches’….Good Season Warriors.
