CL Varsity Lose Last Home Game to Billies, 54-43

Fredericksburg has taken their 3A status to heart as they will shoot and make 3pointers at will to bury a team.

Canyon Lake was in this game and made several runs at this Billie team but there was always an answer in the form of a three pointer and 99% of the time that shot would find the bottom of the net.

The Hawks did shoot in the 30% range throughout this contest which did not help when your opponent is shooting over 50% from that 3 point circle.

CL has one consolation in that Fredericksburg is not a 4A school giving them another point to add onto their scoring.

This was the last night for several Seniors that was in their last home game.

Chandler Faulkner is one of those players that gives several intangibles for the Hawks that won’t always show up in a stat line.

Coach Lucas Chapman has used Faulkner as his go to guy when needing to a shut down defensive player.

“I was feeling pumped up with this being my last game,” Faulkner said. “I wanted to supply a spark for the team especially when I come off the bench.”

Another role player this season has been Tyler Clark who got a call when Paul Davis fouled out early in the fourth quarter.

In those few minutes of game time, this young man responded with eight points that helped pull Canyon Lake back into this game.

“I was just trying to help our team as much as I could,” Clark said confidently. “There was no doubt in my mind that my shot was not going to go in. I feel comfortable with a catch and shoot instead of a shot off the dribble.”

Clark’s last three pulled the Hawks back into single digits with over two minutes left in this game.

Fredericksburg controlled CL in their first match up in district play with a lethal full court press.

“We did a good job with their press and we got them out of it,” Head Coach Chapman said. “That allowed us to get more possessions and opportunities to score. Our defense did a good job by keeping them in the 50’s.”

Canyon Lake did respond after a sloppy first quarter with seven turnovers. The next three quarters the Hawks had eight total giving them that chance to keep this game close.

Now CL will travel to Bandera this next Tuesday for their last game this season. If you want to know how this Hawk team might respond then this might help in answering that question.

“We are going to finish this season right and win it,” Faulkner spoke with resolve.
