Hawks Snake Bit in Loss to Wimberley, 10-8
Hawks are snake bit by Wimberley after losing their second game in the last inning of play this

Canyon Lake went into that last inning up by two runs and even escaped one scare before the Texans found the snake needed to put the Hawks out of their misery.
After a walk to the Texan’s lead off hitter, CL had some luck when they caught the tying run off of third base after a failed squeeze play and still up by one run.
Those two outs could not make it to three before Wimberley loaded the bases and scored three runs for a two run lead and game against this ‘Snake Bit’ Hawk team.
Canyon Lake did work 10 walks with only one strike out from the battery of Wimberley pitchers. Still not enough of those key hits that could of iced this game away.
The Hawks now find themselves down two games for a chance to plug themselves into that third playoff spot.
JJ Nance had two great bunt plays, with one going down as a hit and keeping that inning going after a double from Travis Walker. Both players would score in the third inning.
“We just practice (the bunt play) a lot,” Nance said. “I just go out and try to do what Coach wants us to do.”
On what needs to happen before the final game on Friday, Nance said matter of factly, “We need to just use what happened tonight in this game to help us win on Friday.”
Catcher Michael Brady has had a lethal bat this season and that has been a note that opposing coaches have to take into consideration as Brady was issued to intentional walks in the game.
“They figure to put me on base and I’m not worried since it gives us extra people that can come to bat,” Brady said.
Brady also has a good enough arm that Wimberley did not attempt stealing a base which can also help in those close games. With his .397 batting average he presently leads the Hawks with 17 rbi’s and 25 hits.
Ryan Hutcheson also had three rbi’s leading CL in that category.
Peyton Sipila was a jack of all trades with good at bats with each appearance. A walk, single, sacrifice bunt, walk, and then hit by a pitch his last time up.
Those at bats turned into three runs as Canyon Lake kept their lead throughout those 20 outs of this contest.
“We have got to get 21 outs and get them when we need them,” Head Coach Trent Dunavant said. “We put ourselves in position to win and then we just can’t get that one out or hit to put us over the top.”
Canyon Lake certainly has been bit by some vicious snake and now is the time for some snake oil to help get this district schedule back into shape.
It certainly is not over, but time is running out.
When asked about what can be done from the older players, Brady offered this wisdom, “We (Seniors) need to lead by example and if they (younger players) see it then they will want to follow. We need to keep preaching to finish the game and keep going until that last out.”
Canyon Lake needs to bring a ‘Bull Snake’ with them to Wimberley this Friday and that should take care of what those Texan’s have been using this season on the Hawks.
