Region Track Meet This Week-End for CL Athletes

Senior Kaelin Simmons will compete in Shot-Put and Discus at Region Meet

Enough distances and times have been recorded to get an idea of how each of CL’s athletes will fare going into this week’s Region Meet.
Jordan Anderson still has the best High Jump mark and has a student that has attained that same height.
Anderson has not put a lot of time with this event in the past and now finds himself immersed in wanting to end his track career on a high note. That is certainly doable based on having the best jump in the region.
Once again, as Canyon Lake certainly proved in their District Meet, nothing is in the bag and you have to come out and bring your ‘A’ game no matter what your rank or circumstances.
Their are four athletes with a high jump of 6’4 and then a sharp drop off from that mark. IF and The ReSporter means IF, Anderson can take care of business then he will have a decent chance of advancing to State and from there can boast of going to State in competing in two different venues in his last two years.
Marisa Ellis also competed in the State Meet last year, but will certainly have her work cut out for her as her Region is certainly loaded with several ladies with high marks.
In District 25 and 26 there are two jumpers with a 39′ and almost 41′ jumps so far this season.
Being that you need to finish in the top two to advance will put Marisa in a place that will certainly need a leap that can improve her present best up to this point.
Marisa Ellis has a 37’3.75 jump and is ranked right behind those two students.
Ellis has a tough road with the High Jump also as she is tied with five other athletes with that same mark. That simply means that the one student that can reach that mark with the least amount of scratches will certainly advance.
Also, when so many ladies have the same height, then you have a chance of someone advancing with a higher level when everything is said and done.
Kaelin Simmons will also be at the Region Meet competing in two different areas.
Shot-Put and Discus will be what Simmons will be using as a means of going onto State.
At this writing, Simmons, will need a Shot-Put throw in the 2-3 foot longer to give her a chance of getting in those top two places.
Discus would seem a better event to increase your best mark when you get to this level of throws.
Simmons increased her throws in district by about 18 feet and another chance of increasing that total by half that much would give her a decent chance of advancing.
One lady in District 32 has a heave of 146 feet and that would be the favorite of this group of ladies.
Most of the other competitors are in that 111-125 foot bracket giving anyone of them a chance of getting a spot for advancing.
For the Ladies and their 4×400 Relay time, the Hawks would have to improve that time in the 2 second range to help their chances.
Wharton is the team to beat with a 4:03.13 time with five other schools bunched together at this time for that last spot.

2. Canyon Lake 4:10.60
3. Ingleside 4:10.80
4. Hondo 4:12.72
5. La Vernia 4:14.42
Canyon Lake has not had meaningful competition like many of these other schools that have just completed their Area Meets to qualify for Region.
That could be a downer or could help….just not known at this time how that might help or hurt this year’s foursome.
La Grange certainly ran a much slower time than they have had earlier this season and teams like La Vernia and Ingleside improved their best in the Area Meet.
The juices will be going strong as this week-end inches closer and that is the one variable that you can’t get a handle on until the event commences.
But now you have an idea of how this group of CL athletes might stack up with area schools and students.
