Bracken Aces History Lesson in Win over Indians, 50-0
Bracken Christian took care of business in win over Prairie Lea last Friday night, 50-0.
These Indians had a rough time holding onto the ball as fumbles kept them in trouble throughout this contest.
A total of six fumbles while losing three had these Warriors on the War Path as they piled on and never let up in getting their first mercy game of this campaign.
A lot of Warriors were called on as seven players got the rock at least once and the rest of ancient history with this Indian squad that has not had a lot of success in their history.
Contrast those woes with Bracken Christian that started football in 2006 and have been to the playoffs in all but that first season. This Prairie Lea team’s last playoff date was back in 1944.
Let’s see, what was going on back in those days?
A 34 point first quarter pretty much told the story but there were some highlights for Bracken Christian.
One such play happened when John Colby caught a Noah Boriack pass and barreled his way to the one yard line.
That run had more ancient history as this ReSporter recall watching Earl Campbell in the Pros knocking a tackler back 5 or 6 yards after the hit.
Colby did the same on this run as a tattooed Indian was sending up smoke signals after this hit that cleared some cobwebs from the old noggin.
It seemed that Prairie Lea even sent in two of their bench players to get Colby down at the one to keep him from scoring.
“It was my first catch of the season and I was really pumped,” John Campbell (Colby) said. “I wanted to get the TD and I was so mad when I ended up one yard short.”
Colby could also be seen administering hits from the defensive side of the ball also, “We are getting better after that ‘dump pass’ that killed us in the Austin Hill Country game. We just have to focus and make the right adjustments we still just need to play football.”
Colby had made his switch last season from 11 man to 6-man and The ReSporter asked how that transition was going with this being Colby’s second season, “I’m more comfortable and I’m playing linebacker this year and it is different, but I’m in better shape and you still have to tackle the ball.”
QB Sam Hilgendorf had a chance to help Colby get that touchdown catch when Hilgendorf threw his first touchdown pass for his career while helping Colby get his first for this season.
“When Sam (Hilgendorf) came into the huddle he said that he was going to get me the ball so I could score, I thought that was really cool.”
Hilgendorf had one of his best games of this season as you could see shades of Eli Achilles making blocks to free the running backs on several plays.
Bracken scored on all but one drive against the Indians with shades of yesteryear while scoring on short drives.

Offensively, Bracken had six different players able to score which has never happened in their history.
This game was just what the doctored ordered for BCS, as they will now prepare for Emery-Weiner game for this coming Saturday night at Bracken Field.
“This week’s game was just like the Logos we played last week, they (Emery-Weiner) can score some points,” Head Coach Lloyd Fields said. “This game will tell us if we can play with the elites since our district has three teams in the Top 10.”
