Mountain Valley 7th A and B Squads put Bullpups in the Pound
Mountain Valley A squad potty trained the Burnet Bullpups in Thursday night action at Hawk Field, 22-0.
Trenton Lorett decided to get his dog trained and took the Bullpups for several long runs that eventually caused a dog with a long tongue hanging and needing rest.
“When I got hit at the first of the game, it got me mad and that helped me get into the game and I just got faster,” Lorett surmised.
This might be something Mountain Valley Coaches might want to remember when track season starts this next year to help Lorett before he has a race…(do ask his parent’s first though)
Lorett not only averaged over 24 yards per carry, the never be denied runner intercepted a pass before half and 76 yards later had Mountain Valley in control 16-0 in this contest.
“I didn’t look at the clock and I just got the ball and started running,” Lorett said nonchalantly talking about his interception.
Each team had possession twice in that first half and the Hawks had churned out 54 yards on the ground when their first and last passing attempt of the game resulted in an interception stopping a promising scoring opportunity.
Burnet responded with their best drive of the game that stalled on the Mountain Valley 8 yard line.
This Burnet drive was prolonged when MV roughed the punter and kept their possession in tact.
The Bullpups then ran a 24 yard play down to Mountain Valleys 11 yard line. A one yard run on their next play would be the furthest this team would penetrate.
A motion penalty and then a two play minus 17 yards had Burnet looking at a fourth and 31 yards for a first. The screen play did put a scare in the Hawks but after downing the receiver MV would not be threatened for the remainder of this contest.
Mountain Valley would have a five play 92 yard drive which opened the field up for the Hawks and closed the fence on these Bullpups.
Lorett did most of the damage with 51 yards on two carries, Ruff would garner 13 yards on two carries, and Chacon also ran for 13 yards on his one carry with an added 15 yard penalty due to a face mask call during this set of downs.
On Burnet’s next set of plays, they had answered the bell when a 30 yard run had them setting up shop on Mountain Valley’s 33 yard line with time getting short in this half.
Enter Tyler Siegman with a 9 yard sack on the quarterback and this play led to a resounding 76 yard interception return by Lorett running out the clock and running up the lead going into halftime.
Siegman was in the Burnet backfield for two more sacks and his grand total was -23 yards from those sacks for the Mountain Valley Hawks.
“For one, the guy was really slow that was playing across from me,” Speedy Siegman said. “We kept changing our defense on them and it was making them think which was helping me.” (get to the quarterback)
There were several other hurries as this defense was in control for the remainder of this battle.
Explosive plays was common place as Burnet could not find the ball and when it was spotted, the Hawk runner was scooting down the sideline.
What could of been a bad sign with 105 yards of penalties, actually allowed the Hawks to get more yardage on those running plays and get these dogs on a leash.

Mountain Valley B team started this day with a whitewash on these Bullpups that made our visitors look like a skunk as MV flew all over this Burnet group, 38-28 in the first game of a double header on Thursday night at Hawk stadium.
This game was started with what looked to be a run a way win, when a couple of ‘Stealth’ Bullpups were unLeashed on Mountain Valley giving this game some added intrigue.
Burnet’s running back Joseph Corona would remind you of a Canyon Lake game two years ago when Sealy had a running back that every time he got his hands on the ball, the stadium knew that a score was a possibility.
Corona had three touchdown runs totaling 173 yards and each run was a bulldozer that had speed.
This stealth runner would not be enough however to cage the Hawks as Mountain Valley had an answer or more with a consistent running attack of their own.
Landy Moore had 137 yards with the limited stats that was compiled and two runs that scored of 40 or more yards.
“The team was nervous but we came out and scored on our third play and that set the game in motion,” Moore started. “I was playing fullback last year and with this new offense, I’m playing halfback and that is allowing me with a lot more plays.”
Mountain Valley had raced to a 16 point lead when this game would resemble a table tennis affair as the crowd would have neck braces to stay up with the back and forth scoring.
Connor Rose was also prepping his game for the Basketball coaches as he ran the ball in for the two point conversion after bouncing the ball on the ground and then having that oblong ball bounce right back into his hands while not missing a beat for the extra point run.
“The ball was slippery and I just picked it back up and ran,” Rose dribbled. “It wasn’t planned and I was just kinda worried.” When responding to what he was thinking as he was making this run.
The Hawks had a defensive stop to start the second half that would be able to give the home team the breathing room needed to stay far enough ahead of this Bullpup team.
Burnet was short on their fourth down try allowing MV to start in the Bullpups territory and four plays and 43 yards later a comfortable 30-14 lead.
Corona would respond with 52 rushing yards and a score to get this game back to within 10 points in the third quarter.
Mountain Valley stalled on their next possession as this game would go into the pivotal fourth quarter.
Burnet fumbled on their first play of the quarter and a 7 play 69 yard drive which was helped with two running plays of over 25 yards from Rose and Moore helped increase the lead to 38-20 after a Dunavant four yard run to pay dirt.
After a monster kick-off from the foot of Michael Carpenter pinned the Bullpups on their seven yard line, Burnet let it be known they were not quitting.
With very little time left on the clock, the stealth runner from Burnet was not finished. A two play drive capped off with an 86 yard run for Corona got this game within eye site again, 38-28.
Mountain Valley would fumble on a fourth down play that had enough yards to clinch this game, and now with the change of possessions had this whole stadium ready to see what Stealth Corona could do.
First play from 60 yards away for Burnet was the end of this affair, as Rose shot the gap and tackled Corona for a seven yard loss and the game for another Mountain Valley team that has had a good start to their season.
“I knew who was going to run and I just had to go for it,” Rose said as he was looking at his wounds and scrapes from this game on his arm. “Coaches wanted a linebacker blitz and they also told us to start tackling low.”
Burnet is known for its football program and having these young players bring their ‘A’ game on this Thursday night was a joy to behold.
On what this win meant for this team?
Rose stated, “It is exciting, but I’m from California and I don’t know where Burnet is.”
Burnet knows where Mountain Valley is after this nights games.
If you are not prone going to 7th and 8th grade games, then this might be a treat to come and see as these two grades will be moving up in the future and their just might be some ‘Stealth’ players that will need to be seen as this team matures.
