Mountain Valley 7A squad released their arsenal on Fredericksburg with a convincing 40-6

victory completing a Hawk sweep of our neighbors from the west.

This game had a slow start as Mountain Valley was 1 for 3 on scoring after acquiring the ball from the Billies.

Two penalties on MV first drive helped in getting a dose of reality and an empty opportunity of taking control of this game early.

To put it simply, Mountain Valley had a Ruff start to this affair.

Jacob Ruff then made it rough for Fredericksburg as this ‘will not be denied’ runner went wild running over-around-under-or any other way to get to the end zone and finishing with 168 yards rushing on just 10 carries. That will make it easy for all of us that are numbered challenged to find a nice rushing average.

That first score was with less than a minute before halftime and the 8-0 lead was a very uneasy start to District play.

Then the second half started with a lot of fireworks as Trenton Lorett started with an 81 yard kick-off return for a touchdown….except for a penalty which had MV setting up shop on Fredericksburg 45 yard line.

One play and one touchdown later from a bulldozing run for Ruff was having Billies running for their lives trying to avoid this bruising runner.

“I like to run people over,” Ruff said while Highway Patrolmen take notice. “Football is my passion and I can’t think of anything I would rather be doing.”

“I have to keep playing and we did not enjoy any enthusiasm when we started this game,” Ruff glided over. “But ‘perfect’ would be the word to describe the offensive line.”

A recovered kick by the Hawks enabled Mountain Valley with another short field only needing 35 yards this time for a Tristan Chacon 20 yard run and a what now would be a safe 24-0 score.

Five touchdown runs that totaled 178 yards would more than dwarf Fredericksburg’s total offense for the game and give you an idea that this game would be one for the books.

Ruff and Chacon would pair up in the fourth quarter for two more scores and a nice 34 point win.

Mountain Valley first four drives of the second half was an impressive set of plays:

Drive Play(s) Result Time off Clock
         45 yards 1 8 points 0:28
         35 yards 4 8 points 1:36
         59 yards 1 8 points 0:15
         20 yards 1 8 points 0:08
Total 159 yards 7 plays 32 points 2:27 Elapsed Time

Digest those numbers and you can see a team that had control of this game with offense and also defense.

Defensively, Tyler Siegman was seen in the Fredericksburg backfield with an 11 yard sack in that fourth quarter that helped add to those barrage of points.

The offense was all about that offensive line as holes were opening up that would have the Army Corp of Engineers in panic mold if they saw any of these lineman near the Canyon Lake Dam.

“I’m glad I was able to do what I do for the running backs,” Lineman Sheldon Flint sparked. “We run a play called 234 where I double with Austin Rodriguez and that will usually ensure that our linebackers can come and blow up the hole.”

Spoken with resolve and a quiet this is fun from players that don’t get their names printed like those running backs.

The ReSporter would encourage anyone that enjoys this game of football should make a point of coming to Hawk Stadium on any Thursday evening to see a group of students playing at a very high rate of football.

The road to the stadium could see some ‘ruff’ spots so be careful getting there.
