Bracken Even Keels CASA, 67-21

Bracken has righted their ship as the Warriors opened with 36 straight points in a win over CASA, 67-21 at Warrior Stadium last Friday night.

“I thought we needed this ball game going into our game with OLH next week,” Head Coach Lloyd Fields said. “We had to rethink our philosophy and our grind it out football but this game we were very business like.”

It was homecoming for Bracken Christian and some of those former players saw a familiar offense in this game.

BCS has been a grind it out type of team and on this night the Warriors had three straight drives consisting of one play for a score. For the game, Bracken had four one play drives and one two play drive.

That was a vintage Warrior night for this Homecoming crowd.

The Rams started the game throwing an interception on their third play when Sam Hilgendorf snagged the errant pass that gave BCS a chance to draw first blood.

Four plays with a Jeff Camp reverse that would of scored if the teams would of been playing two below. Preston Koch was good on the kick giving BCS a quick, 8-0 lead.

Camp was also a recipient of two long touchdown receptions for 98 yards, which is the sixth best game for any receiver in Bracken’s history.

“The whole idea is that our opponents will follow Noah (Boriack) and then that will usually leave me open for my receptions,” Camp camped out. “I have been playing with Boriack for three years now and we have a good idea of each other’s moves and that helps…he (Boriack) had two perfect throws.”

“I know how he (Camp) plays and he is tall and can make plays,” Spread Back Boriack assessed.

The Bracken defense held the Rams again and the Warriors responded with a six play drive and a Koch score and the route was officially on. Koch led the team with 114 yards.

CASA would not punt this night and after another defensive stand, Bracken got going with their one play drives for scores.

 1) Noah Boriack 35 yard run.     Score 24-0
 2) Preston Koch 40 yard run.     Score 30-0
 3) Jeff Camp 48 yard reception.  Score 36-0

Bracken Christian scored on every possession except one and that drive had a lost fumble.

That translated to 10 out of 11 drives for scores which would be a sweet average for free throw shooting.

“This is not an emotional team,” Coach Fields said in response to how Bracken approached this game. “We are an even keel team and there are no peaks and valleys.”

How about an even keel 12.7 yards per rushing play for this game and an even better average when you add all plays, with a 13.1 yards per play.

Bracken’s roll players got a huge ovation after scoring an extra point as this game was coming to a close.

A three yard pass from Freshman Quarterback Brady Beene to Christopher Kubala. That point helped add enough misery that the Warriors just needed to score for the Mercy Rule to be invoked.

That play was after an interception by Boriack and 62 yard return that really could be counted as 80 yards based on all the dashing around by Boriack to get a clear view of that end zone.

“I just kept making people miss and it took a long time to score,” Cornerback Boriack caught. “I was just happy to get the game over with.”

Boriack was on defense for seven plays and that was his forte in year’s past.

“I love playing defense and I’m not used to playing offense,” Boriack said defensively. “I love when Coach lets me play on defense.”

An exciting ending and now BCS will prepare for a game with OLH next Friday in Kerrville.

A win will give the Warriors a 2nd Place finish while OLH will need a win to get into the playoffs.

A must win for a team will always make a game difficult as that team will have a little extra in that type of contest.

“There are no gimme games,” Camp closed. “We will have to fight.”
