The Hawk ‘B’ squad started this contest with a whimper as their first four plays accounted for a negative three yards. The game might be a surprise for a club that has been clubbing opponents all year long.

Bandera then marched to the Mountain Valley 9 yard line where the Bulldogs finally ran out of gas.

The nine play drive covering 32 yards would be Bandera’s best drive of the night as these Bulldogs would only amass three more first downs in this game.

Mountain Vally Hawks then took the ball over and started steamrolling for a 15 play 91 yard drive. This drive ended with only three minutes left for halftime entertainment.

The drive had all runs with the following cast of characters:

 Name Carries Yards
 Edward Canales 4 58
 Hank Jordan 5 33
 Bryce Pearson 2 5
 Lee Stafford 2 1
 Cameron Shaffer 2 -6

Two possessions and eight points would be all this Hawk team would need for this win.

“We just pretend like this is just another team,” Hank Jordan said. “We just want Wimberley and Navarro games, because they are our biggest competitors and will put up the biggest fight.”

Six yards per carry and a shut down defense gives you an idea that the lines had this game in control.

“They (Bandera) were not lining up like we expected them to and that made blocking them easier,” Lineman Eric Hill commented. “We just got low and blocked, it is pretty amazing that our backs will get their yards after our blocks after we cover their hole in the line.”

(Side Note) Mountain Valley’s four clubs held Bandera without a touchdown on this evening. Both squads on the 7th and 8th grade teams pitched shut-outs.

To start the second half, the Bulldogs had a fumble on their first play and MV decided to increase their lead with another drive of 40 yards on 8 plays and a 16-0 lead.

The Hawks closed the doggy door on this Bulldog team with another score after another defensive stop. Now Bandera was lapping water as this drive and many other plays were gaining a much better average of yards with each carry.

Running back Canales went through a wide open gash for 31 yards for a Hawk final score in this 24-0 route.

A sample defensive stand as this game was in it’s later stages will give you an idea of the dominance for MV.

On the Bulldogs second to last drive they had negative yards on a pass play (-3) and a sack for -6 yards and then Lee Stafford capped it all off with an interception.

“I dropped back in a zone coverage,” Stafford said. “I just focused on not dropping the ball just like we have been focusing on defense.”

Mountain Valley did have a new QB for this game when Shaffer took the snaps. New QB that had only one week of practice and that will give you an explanation for those fumbles on the snap on this night.

“Well we had a good day of practice on Tuesday,” Bryce Pearson assessed. “We got a new quarterback and we had to concentrate to get our plays in also helping Cameron (Shaffer) since he had not played quarterback all year.”

Other than that, this Bulldog was in his cage for his trip to the Vet. (you can add what type of reason this Bandera dog was summoned to the vet)

Next week, Mountain Valley will be paying a visit to our neighbors to the north (Wimberley) for what might be a better barometer on how this group of players have come this season.

“We want to win every game and we can do that if we keep working together as a family,” Pearson closed as he commented on the teams goals as this season draws to a close.

Good luck.
