This week’s game with Bandera will be a dogfight for Canyon Lake as this team is searching for that right combination that might be able to dial up a win.

Canyon Lake is on their longest losing streak since play started five years ago and certainly can not take any team for granted.

Bandera has not had a lot of success since moving into Canyon Lake’s district and can still count the number of district wins with no fingers.

The Bulldogs started this season with some life as they beat George West and Devine with ease and

now find themselves with a four game losing streak going into this contest.

To put it succinctly the loser of this game for all intense and purposes will have a tough road for making the playoffs.

Noah Nelson was the quarterback last year that was on fire before being an injury before district play. This young man will make his presence known this time around.

Nelson has been moved to receiver this year and is leading the team with 15 receptions totaling 270 yards.

The Bulldogs also have two other receivers with decent yardage receiving, Joe Phair and Jonathan Stoufflet will be active in this department.

Stoufflet is their possession receiver with 13 catches and 150 yards and will need to be curtailed by Canyon Lake.

Joe Rodriguez is taking snaps under center and has a decent 55% completion rate for 979 yards. Rodriguez has thrown 10 touchdowns and has 5 interceptions.

Rushing will have Landon Ventura as the workhorse as he has 61 carries for 307 yards. Alex Willoughby-Gonzales another Bulldog running back has 199 yards for more than 4 yards per tote.

QB Rodriguez does have positive yardage but will not be a threat like many of the other quarterbacks Canyon Lake has faced this season.

One of Canyon Lakes main weaknesses this year is in the turnover department on both sides of the ball.

The Hawks have had some costly fumbles at in opportune times…but you can also say that turnover weakness has materialized in not being able to force turnovers on this current losing streak.

That 2009 Hawk team still ranks right up there in being the best in forcing their opponents hand by getting those miscues.

The Hawks will need to play a complete game and have a coming out party for this defense by having some of that 2009 defensive karma return.

Canyon Lake has yet to establish that they are able to outscore an opponent if a game turns into a shoot-out.

So a good defensive effort would certainly work in the Hawks favor if possible.

Fredericksburg was not stopped last week and with that slow start on the offensive side of the line resulted in CL trying to come from behind. That is not a strength for an offense that the Hawks run.

The defense can benefit from this type of offense when the Hawks take control of the clock, but that only works if both sides of the line can do their job.

Canyon Lake will need some stops and a couple of time consuming drives and that drive home from Bandera should be an enjoyable affair.

Who knows it might just drive you crazy with happiness.
