The Wimberley game is upon Canyon Lake once again and the Hawks need to be checking the field for snakes.
Snake-bit would be a good illustration on how this series has transpired through the years.
Wimberley is certainly one of the premiere programs in Texas and CL is still trying to find their yellow brick road to see the wizard.
Sometimes when Canyon Lake sees the Wizard, they find out that sage wisdom is coming from a Texan when the curtain comes down.
That has not led to good results and many times the Hawks just can’t get their Brain, Bravado, and Heart in sinc when that kick-off commences the game.
Sooner or later, those stars have to be aligned so a victory is not such a pie in the sky.
Canyon Lake certainly had a tough non-district schedule and it can be said that Wimberley’s schedule was no walk in the park.
Liberty Hill and La Vernia are both sporting 6-1 records and Wimberley’s pennant is hanging on both of those teams walls this year.
Colton Cerday will be calling the signals and this Quarterback has a 50% completion rate with seven TD’s. Cerday can also run to keep out of trouble.
The Texans seem to catch by committee as they have several receivers that have helped move that ball. Alex Mireles, Brock McDorman, and Jacob Madrid are leading the receiving brigade.
Rushing has come from West Lambert and winning the trenches will be paramount for the Hawks to have a chance in this game. Lambert is also a concern coming out of the backfield as a receiver.
Canyon Lake had their most complete game of the season last week in their win over Bandera.
Can that type of game become a habit? The ReSporter can tell you about 10:00pm on Friday.
Bandera game was back to back with Wimberley and both teams were beaten by La Vernia.
The Texans laid one on those Bulldogs scoring 47 points while CL scored 27, but each of those scores took enough time off the clock that it would not allow the Hawks to get more scores.
La Vernia won their game over CL using their Special Teams and that game could of been closer if that part of the game would of been present. However, last time The ReSporter checked, it does not matter how you score, the quest of any team is to score more points anyway possible.
Canyon Lake will have to keep their turnovers at a minimum in order to turn the tables on Wimberley as well as having two stops on defense.
Having those stops will help in giving your Hawks a chance to pull off the upset.
Wimberley will be a hard out as they lost their first District game last week in four years if not longer.
That should make this Texan a mad Texan and Canyon Lake will need to match their intensity from from the outset.
If that intensity does not materialize early then the Hawks could be trying to come from behind again and that will not spell a good ending.
