Varsity Lady Hawks end up on Wrong End of Score with Navarro
CL Volleyball lost a must win game with Navarro last night at Mountain Valley Middle School Gynasium.
Canyon Lake whether you like it or not is in one if not the toughest Volleyball District in the State of Texas.
Simple fact with the poll from Texas Girls Coaches Association just released.
2. Wimberley 21. Fredericksburg 26. Navarro 34. Boerne
The Hawks will need to beat Bandera this Friday and then win two of the three teams that are ranked above.
Canyon Lake has truly improved throughout the season but without getting a hot streak, then another year without a playoff to show off all of their hard work.
That will then lead The ReSporter to the future and have a report on this Freshman team that did win
last night against the Panthers.
The Freshman Hawks had a wild ride to their victory when they opened the match up with a 10 point win to be humiliated by an 8-25 score.
Yes, you read that right, CL Freshman team only had eight points in that second game.
“Communication melt down,” Head Freshman Coach Tosha Ridgeway said.
To understand the comeback and win for the third game can be described as motivational ploy.
“They (the team) would have a lot of running to do…about 19 laps around the track if they would not have responded with a win. If they win, then they don’t have to run.”
Canyon Lake did respond with a 25-17 third game and match win.
“Passing….dropped ball…whatever there was to do we did not do it,” Abby Freund said matter of factly. “We realized what we needed to do in that third game and we had done it a lot before.”
When commenting on how this team was night and day better from the second to third game, Freund commented, “We thought we had this game since we had beat Navarro earlier this year, but we can learn to play the second game and not give ourselves any excuses in the future.”
“We did not want to run,” Marathoner Freund said and we know we are capable of winning out in district.”
Now you can see what having to run might encourage these young ladies for better results.
The ReSporter can see that their might be some more motivational ideas coming from teachers and parent’s in their future.
Either way, you can count that this team of ladies will respond and make those people happy with a great job.
====================================
Varsity did not fair as well as the Freshman team as Navarro had a three game sweep of the Lady Hawks, 18-25, 12-25, and 11-25.
This Panther team had to scrape and claw for a win earlier this year in district play and thus this game was totally out of nowhere in how it turned out.
“Our offense was awful,” Head Coach Kim Paisley said without mincing any words. “No one stepped it up and we did not take care of business. This was our chance as we start the second round of district play and we just did not respond.”
Canyon Lake started off on fire as Hannah Wunderlich started the first game serving for a 4-0 lead. During this four point outage, there was a kill each by Amber Ramesy and Emily Muniz…and two great digs by Trena Lorett.
That had the crowd and team excited, but that excitement was certainly curtailed when a time out by the visitors and a turn around as this Navarro coach did not call another time out this match.
The Panthers scored on every serve but two for the whole contest and Canyon Lake just could not catch up or match up for the rest of this match.
Now, the Hawks will travel to Bandera for a game with the Bulldogs this Friday and a loss in this contest will eliminate CL for a District 27-3A playoff berth.
A win? Then there will be another day for chance for that other season called playoff and three of those four games will be at home.
