There will be three games this week pitting District 26 and 27 games.
La Grange put their stamp on Cuero and Gonzales during district play and the team that did not make it to round two (Yoakum) was the one team that La Grange did not beat as convincingly.
Now, granted beating a team by a 28-7 score is convincing but when compared to the Cuero (42-12) and Gonzales (48-19) games you can tell that La Grange was on their ‘A’ game of domination for those tilts.
Canyon Lake will have to decide if they are Mr. Hyde or Dr. Jekyll this week as this Hawk team has transformed themselves in just these last two weeks in their games with Navarro (0-62) and Pleasanton (24-21).
The ReSporter will first compare games with common opponents and in this case, the Leopards will certainly hold the edge since that one team each team has played was against each other.
La Grange had their way with the Hawks and this game was over before the fans had a chance to say hi their neighbor sitting next to them.
The Leopards bolted out to a 21 point lead before Canyon Lake could draw blood.
La Grange is a complete team with good play by their offense/defense/and special teams.
Canyon Lake will have to find an answer for running back Rodney Filmore who rushed for 169 yards without playing the fourth quarter.
Dillon Davis will also pose problems as his passing and running from the quarterback spot can keep a defense guessing. Davis has passed for 1326 yards while rushing for 508 yards.
Davis averages over 180 yards per game adding those two categories.
The Leopards also has Bralon Hutchison with 789 yards rushing with an average of 13 yards per carry. Hutchison touched the ball once in his game with CL and ran for 53 yards to paydirt.
The skill players for La Grange can score anytime and the best defense for this offense will have to come from Canyon Lake’s ability to have a decent game offensively where there are some sustained drives to keep the Leopards offense off the field.
Canyon Lake did have more yardage than La Grange in their game, but you can also point out that this No. 9 rated team was not playing their starters when the Hawks were scoring two touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
La Grange has only given up 12 points per game since playing CL while scoring at a 34.7 clip.
Need some good news?
The Hawks have won four of their last five games with their best win coming last week against a 9-1 Pleasanton team.
Canyon Lake will need to be able to play as flawless a game as possible to stay on the field with this formidable opponent.
Has the Hawks improved since the game with La Grange over seven weeks ago? That is why they play the game.
Canyon Lake does have some confidence entering this game and will need to control the turnover game and be able to move the ball on the ground.
The Hawks can’t be satisfied with last week’s win and will need to be able to channel a Hyde or Jekyll for this game.
The simple truth is having a little of both might be an answer to beating this team. Good Luck!
