CLHS Swim Team Season Update

– Hawk Time Trial:
This went more smoothly than I thought and we did very well. We started the season in a

much better position than last year and It really kicked the year off right. Although we did not keep score at this meet, it was clear that our Hawk swimmers dominated both San Marcos and Hays.

– Round Rock Invitational:
This was our first time attending this meet and it was a great eye opener for some of our kids. There were over 25 teams there (we were the only 3A school represented) and our boys placed 15th. We also broke the school record in the Boys 200 Freestyle Relay. I was a pretty good start to the season with the team achieving 75% personal best times.

– Capital City Classic:
This meet was a great opportunity for our kids to swim at the University of Texas pool (The UIL State meet is held there) and compete against a mix of 28 different size teams. It was our first meet of the season with finals and we had several swimmers and relays who qualified for the 4A and under finals. Our boys placed 7th, our girls placed 9th, we saw the tail end of the UT Swim Team’s practice and we got to see plenty of people “keeping Austin weird” between the Preliminaries and Finals! (Team best time percentage – 68%…..not too shabby.)

– Burnet 4A & Under TISCA Invitational:
(TISCA = Texas Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association)
This was our first two day meet of the season and we really came together as a team. This meet was only open to 4A and under schools. With 16 teams represented, the Hawks qualified every swimmer for at least one event in the finals. Our boys were second (losing to a team who came all the way from El Paso) and our girls placed 9th overall.
(Best time percentage 65%)

– Hays Sprint Invitational (San Marcos):
This was a great meet to kickoff the Thanksgiving Holiday. Our boys won their side of the meet in dominating fashion and combined our boys and girls were third. Much better than last year’s fifth place finish! A team best time percentage of 62% was great as well.

-South Zone TISCA Championships:
There were 55 schools represented at this elite meet. Qualifying standards are very fast and we had 7 swimmers acheive at least one standard. We were one of only three 3A teams there and we were up against many 5A and 4A top 10 teams. Our boys placed 15th with Christian Duarte becoming the first CLHS swimmer ever to qualify for the finals at this meet.

The meet this weekend is at The Galloway-Hammond Recreation Center on the right as you enter Burnet heading north on 281(same pool as the last meet in Burnet).

Preliminaries are on Friday and Finals on Saturday. All CLHS swimmers have a very good chance of swimming in finals and, of course should plan on attending both days!

This is a meet open to only 3A and under schools. There are 14 teams in this meet. It is designed for those of us at small schools to have a chance to compete with only other small schools. There is another 3A & Under meet going on in North Texas at the same time. Last year our boys placed 4th and girls were 7th. We have a great chance to place significantly higher this year. Our swimmers will be able to see that we have a pretty good TEAM for a school our size.
